Getting A New Diagnosis From My Psychiatrist?

I am trying to get a new diagnosis of complex ptsd, but because me and my parents both agree that I had a misdiagnosis of mild schizophrenia and psychosis, me and my mum and have recently been to see a psychiatrist for new diagnosis, which is what we requested, but at the time of the appointment she was very reluctant to review my former diagnosis, but during the session I insisted that she makes another session with both me and my mum and a psychologist to properly review my diagnosis. I just wanted ask has anyone else had this experience with getting a review and if I don't get an actual diagnosis for next appointment, is there any steps I can do to take this further other than a second opinion?

It's probably a good thing they don't review your old diagnoses, and take you for you as you are today. I had practically every DX there is over the years, and when I was hospitalized at Sheppard Pratt Trauma Disorders Unit, they did not want to see my old records either. They took me as a clean slate and made their own DX based on what they saw, not what the past has said. I now have a really simple diagnosis, Bipolar I with Features, and PTSD.

Go with the flow is my recommendation. Remember Psychiatry is part voodoo science, and what they go by changes with each DSM revision. Starting off with a clean DX is a good thing. Because it will be based on today's criteria, and you as you are today.

Ok thanks for that but why do you not recommend me getting a new diagnosis, as it would be beneficial for the both now and the future medical appointments, so I don't really understand, because don't they usually go by the past as well?

I don't think I said don't get a new diagnosis, I think what I said is leave the old DX in the past.

Oh yes, sorry i've only just realized what I have typed, sorry what I meaning was my old diagnosis. I very often forgot to thoroughly proof read what I have wrote, my apologies. :)
