Hi all

This is my first post! So, due to childhood abuse for many year and sexual assaults for about a year when I was young. I now have PTSD how as its rather complex and the abuse lasted from as young as I remember till I left home when I was 18 however still suffered the verbal abuse by those who are meant to love you the most.

What's really sad is I though my life was 'normal' until I met my wife.

My doctor is now aware however, told me unless am ready to jump off a bridge and as am not a veteran (soldier), I won't be able to get help.

So, this forum is my only hope. I am seeing a councilor tomorrow but she's a sexual assault one, I don't think it'll help I don't like speaking to someone with zero feedback and she may not be able to help me after my initial appointment, I'll know if she can but my needs are extremely complex not just for one councilor to help I need a lot specialise in different areas but I would love to go to a PTSD group that's where I think this forum will come in as there's PTSD Groups but for soldiers. So, really am completely lost in my own world of horror with flashbacks, vivid dreams and I am snappy if something happens that verbally similar or a similar situation to those I've experienced.

I have to go on this site to be private and not have my name showing in case my abusers find me. I cannot seem to fully shake them.

An rambling now. Hope your all able to help in some way. I suppose I need friends who are in similar positions. I don't have many friends as they all freaked out when I became disabled (was a semi pro footballer), that's not including my mental health issue which only my wife and one work colleague knows about.

I think there's people that assume those with PTSD have to be ve veterans. We all suffer alike and are all human just some people are ill informed that anyone can suffer from it.

Hugs xx

You might check out MIND or other local NGO's, see if they have any support groups or offer affordable counseling. See if you can get access to Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, as it helps stabilize a lot of conditions. Try to get a psychiatric consult.
That's my suggestions.

Awesome post.
You spoke very clearly and, my opinion, you are very correct in your assessment of society and its ability to provide assistance and compassion.
I feel very strongly, though, also, that you can find positives here.
My ptsd abuse was neither sexual nor childhood, so I am not uniquely qualified to help in your particular case. I have been here for less than a year and this site has been a godsend for me in my issues. I extend a heartfelt welcome to you. There are many here who can help you in many ways and I hope they read your post and answer. In my case I haven't been given all the answers, but I have direction and hope. I am learning patience and am learning tools for combating and arresting bad coping mechanisms and the pain and hurt I feel.
Thank you for sharing. It takes strength and courage to do so. I hope you find solace and healing in your journey.

Thank you for your lovely words.

I have kept a book more of a diary ish on my memories, I get lost in thought sometimes.

Thank you again x

Seeing a sexual assault couselor is actually the kind of counselor you need, here is why, I have a therapist, she has help me a lot, but she is not trained in abuse, so I too am seeing a counselor who specializes in sexual abuse, but my abuse is all 3 forms. And at different times and by different people who are not connected in any way.

A sexual abuse counselor does not just deal with sexual abuse, they deal with all kinds of abuse, trauma is trauma and that's what they are treating. So my suggestion is stick with that counsellor. And get a regular therapist too. Because you need to deal with more issues than the abuse, you need to deal with the effects it has on your daily life. And a regular therapist is best for that.

Thank you, tomorrow I see of she will accept me as its a charity so they see if am eligible for it.

I hope it'll go ok as am not overly keen on talking to someone who doesn't say anything back

@Shortie I wish us both success on our journeys in getting help with our past abuse and its effects, I say us both because you seem to be at the same point I am. I am just starting to see the abuse therapist (she works at a place that deals with rape, victim advocacy, past abuse, etc.)

@everyone and @Shortie I just had my second session with Life Crisis Center who does abuse specific therapy, I will be starting next week with dealing with my abuse. I am scared but relieved that I am finally at a point where I can hopefully someday be able to function without the past interfering. Had to use my frozen oranges this session to stay grounded, I clearly will be needing to do the same next week.

I am sorry but that is just the most callous reply I have heard. You will find wonderful people in this group. We all help each other learn from traumas we have experienced and these forums are a powerful tool for PTSD sufferers. You will find out that you will be able to heal with all of us, stick it out and you will be happy you contacted members of this group for sure.

I did not choose my therapist, was the other way around but would not trade my T for ten others. Just tonight I finally understood why I have to go through certain situations, understood that I need to truly understand what people are capable of.

Oh, don't get me wrong: I used to fight my therapist vehemently about many different subjects but his patience is unbelievable, he explains subjects to me until my brain is finally healthy enough to understand. Not only does that teach me a lot but the therapist also knows then that the therapy is working and yes, yes, my brain really is regenerating sections that were not there before: amazing.

I have never ever had anyone in my life that has been patient with me, all of my abusers have been the direct opposite, but my therapist sticks it out and will teach me over and over again how to differentiate between real and imagined dangers and he never tires to show me the right way..

What can I say? Thank you, thank you

@Freedomfighter is right @Shortie I love when I hear people have a therapist they love, I was assigned mine but could change, but I would never want to do that. @Shortie I think sticking with the sexual assault therapist is your best hope, sexual assault is just part of a spectrum of abuse, and as has been said before they deal with abuse period. Sexual Assault is what is most publicly recognized.

In fact its probably the best kind of help you can get for ptsd.
