God's Not Dead - Evolution Or Religion?

I have no intentions of watching the movie, because I don't want anything messing with my beliefs.
The movie doesn't mess with beliefs, and to be perfectly honest, if your belief structure is so fragile to influence... I'm not really sure you can truly state you believe it, as part of you, if such fragility exists to shift your belief system based on a fictional movie.

I have a belief system... mine goes something like this: I'm not sure if there is this one and mighty invisible person / being that rules over the universe and things happen because of fate, or whether the science is actually correct, and things come to fruition still today that never existed through self-creation and other influences. I believe there are things that cannot be explained by science alone, and I believe there are things that religion can't explain either. Either way... I sit on the fence and see positive and negatives in both sides. Religion is the major cause of all wars in the world... that is fact. That is a negative for religion. Science causes a lot of chaos through creating things that then harm the world, thus science has to try and fix their past glories. A negative for science.

They both have positives... they both have the capacity for good things to happen both in the world and communities.

Neither is perfect, is my belief system... and nothing I read or watch would easily influence what I believe based on everything available to date. God would have to literally show himself, stand in front of me and show me his powers of awesomeness, for me to jump to religion alone. Science would have to demonstrate to me the factual creation of a universe, actually show me... not some academic who thinks they have a crystal ball and knows what happened in the past versus assuming they may think they have the answer based on evidence available to them.

To me... nothing is so certain on either side, thus my belief system. I am not fore or against either. I can see good and bad in both sides. I choose the good from both sides, and trying to minimise the bad on both sides.

when it is a highly religious person who argues that their belief system is right, trying to shove a God down others throats.

I agree with the majority of that sentiment. Religiosity is often masked as 'highly religious'. However, this practice is far removed from having a personal relationship with a Higher Power and erodes that of another’s free agency. Gently, I offer that it is not even sanctioned within scripture of the KJV Bible and is considered evil.

I have often erred thinking my belief systems were 'right'. I tried to discussed Jesus with my Father during his 2nd wife's death and her being so beautiful in heaven. He was furious with me then. However, during his own illness prior to death, he explained what happened to him as a Native American in a Catholic Institution & we made peace within our blend of HP's, God and prayer.

I don't understand why science and God can't commingle.

I am with you Britt. I never saw the difference but then I am crazy drug-free hippy anyhow.:happy:

Again great movie for teaching tolerance as Anthony stated.

@The Albatross

In the Movie-the professor being on his deathbed (street accident) was being talked to about Jesus by the pastor & missionary- is what prompted my response about my own wobbly but heart felt attempt with my Dad. My Dad held-on with out life support for two days until he heard my voice, forgiveness, love. At that moment, he allowed himself to pass.

Love and forgiveness was essential to him before departing. He was my abuser but most important of all, he was a person like the professor filled with so much hate that needed that moment of peace while on earth. I am glad I saw the Movie too, I think everyone will take something away from it for their self.

@anthony, not that it would rock my belief system. I guess I am just afraid because my father use to use religion to his advantage and put me down for whatever I believed. So I get weary of movies, books, etc., thinking they are all to shame me. Like he did. Which is too bad to have that feeling, since my Catholic upbringing with a priest was very open to the possibilities of faith and others differences. I should just hang with that.
