I do not do searches so I do not get ads. But I am getting a ton of credit card offers in the mail which I file in the trash. I think everything is tracked now.

I hate the ads. They have nothing to do with my browsing history. I am sickeningly repelled by the toenail fungus ad which comes up about 70% of the time, and freaked by the ad for the combat game with tanks and things blowing up. I get why the combat stuff is on this site, but the fungus one mystifies me. I wouldn't mind the ads so much if they weren't so triggering...but it has taught me something about my capacity to dissociate sometimes...I'm learning to only look at the right side of the page. I wish I could find it funny, but it makes me sick.

There are advertisers who don't care which sites display their ads, thus they usually launch well funded, global ad campaigns, thus when Google can't match you more specifically, they display these more general advertisers to you.

There are programs you can use to strip ads in your browser, yes... but you normally see a blank space where they're meant to be. The problem with those, is that they also often strip valid content such as images, video and other bits at times. It just all depends on your browser and program. Doing anything after the fact can have interesting results...

Well, that explains the blank spots that have been showing up on some pages! Weird. It started recently and I've been wondering about it. Now I know!

Yep, that would be it. Third party programs can have varying and different results, stripping some ads, not others, content, images, video, flash content and more. They had a rise years ago, then a fall because of these exact issues. It was easier to view the ads than try to strip them and thus strip actual content from what you're viewing.

Because I'm a dog handler, I often get Google ads for grooming products/dog food, or dog breeders will get advertised on there sometimes and I'm just like "The last thing I need is another puppy." Lol.
And because I'm a DJ, I get advertisements for music colleges and really useless equipment. Um... been there done that, don't need to go to another college... and I buy my equipment at Guitar Center, not off of Google.
I think it's creepy though that Google "knows" stuff about me, like how it knows what my jobs are and it tries to cater to that. I find that really weird and unsettling.
I also keep getting pop-up ads like "See arrest records in" ________ town that I live in. Or "meet singles in" ______ town that I live in. Yeah, I'm engaged lol. Come on, Google. Why?

Oh, no, not from here. That just happens on my computer in general. I haven't ever gotten any pop-ups from this site.

I was looking through the list of ads that have shown on the site since inception... some pretty funny stuff. Amazing what people put in ads in order to get clicks.

then below zombie minion is running to show how it might look...Oh yes it free full version!!!
