News Gop V. Obama 2012

Generally speaking though, it's really two sides of the same coin, though Dems tend to be better domestically. Still, this time, with the likes of Santorum, Gingrich and Romney in the mix...Obama not winning is a scary thought indeed. Let's not forget he inherited a messed up economy, 2 wars etc. from Dubya and Republicans have been messing with his every attempt to do somethign positive. AT least they can't call him soft on security. After all he got Bin Laden (after 8 years of Bush Admin's incompetence or lack of will to get him?)...

It's kinda funny how the Republicans and Democrats have pretty much switched places. In the Civil War, the northern Republicans tended to go for more government, etc., while the southern Democrats seceded in part due to too much government. (It's been a while since I paid attention to any politics whatsoever, so I realize that I've probably over simplified this.)

That being said, they should actually practice equal rights for everyone, and trim the fat off the government. (But I'm no politico, so I can't devise a plan for that yet :) )

And for Bin Laden, personally I think that had more to do with the fact that he was the head of a terrorist organization, hiding in a different country, and Al-Qaeda and Taliban forces have been known to hop the border into Pakistan, to much the same effect as criminals here hop the border to Mexico. So he had the resources/support and legal protection to hide for a very long time.

 You were at the Civil War? Don't spoil it for me, I'm still reading the part about "state's rights". I can't wait to find out who won. :sneaky: I need to get a history book from both the North and South to see if they match up, lol. You know how our state governments like to tinker with our textbooks.

Seriously, the D's are really about protecting the common people from getting steam rolled by large corporations and human rights, while the R's are about protecting corporations with the theory that if the big CEO's are making lots of money then they pass it down to the little guy.

Both sides have their faults (especially on the extreme ends). The R's find loopholes around any law put in place to protect the common people (the so called "99%") just to stick it to the D's. So in essence, the R's can be a bit worse, and more childish in thier politics.

However, the D's can be Gullible (with a capital G) to think that a law could hinder GOP antics. It just gives them more reason to skirt the law -- like a school yard challenge. Plus, there is a LOT of hyype about the green movement. I am all for keeping the environment clean and healthy .. but the technology just isn't there yet (not affordable at least). We need to reduce energy usage rather than sinking money into out-dated alternative energy sources that have been touted since the 1960's & 70's? The hippy generation invented a lot of that stuff, but it isn't sustainable in the long term -- nor does it make financial sense.

I wish money didn't play into ethical roles ... ethics (taking care of the Planet & not strip our natural resources for future generations to live comfortably & healthy) ... really should take precedent over monetary gain/loss, but we can't live our own lives comfortably if we go into unfixable debt doing things that just are not going to work for the long term.

I'm not sure how much is in the textbooks, I only paid attention enough in school to pass the tests, I get most of my info from other sources, that being said, I read about this particular thing in a book about how our politics have evolved since the Revolution. Think about this, there used to be several other parties, including, lol, the Whigs. Also, think about this. A true democracy is run collectively by individuals, aka the majority vote wins. A republic is run by representatives. The true form of one has very little government, the other is an actual government body instead of the people all having an equal say(one vote).

And I did mention oversimplifying it for a reason. Particularly since I made a general statement...

And this is a planet filled with humans... There won't be intelligent group decisions till every stupid person is killed off. Then there will be a new batch of stupidity.

I'm sorry chill, I was just making light. I do forget that tone of voice is necessary for these kinds of things and is best left unposted -- thanks for reminding me.

:) It's ok, I'm not that good at understanding peeps. The last section was just me being bitter at society for things like letting criminals loose in stuff, wasn't directed here :(

HA!!

Well, I use to think I knew who won (but hardly cared since it was all about the Gold Rush and how the WEST WAS WON where I lived) until I moved to the South East, then, hmmm. I'd say keep reading .

Sometimes I wonder what era we are in when someone suggests where my "place" is. :ninja: Doubtful this will EVER work for me here, now, or ever.
