Oh, I don't doubt they chase payment, Raven! They all do! I'm not sure that they have a choice in this day and age!

I am still not sure what you mean with the taxpayer money scenario? All I can tell you is that Sacred Heart is not for profit. The board is comprised of business people around the area, none of which hold public office. If taxpayer money was used for medical care, it perhaps went into a general fund spread throughout the county or, was used in the health department. It was not used or governed by the sacred heart hospital.

Rumors, Yeah, that was the deal when Sacred Heart (and a private company in Texas) bought our public hospital. It's a 40-year lease deal where the hospital, not who runs it, is for-profit. After 40 years, they can buy it for $100. So, Sacred heart is "non-profit" org that runs a "private" for-profit hospital. Just because Sacred Heart is "non-profit" doesn't mean it is a "public" hospital. Anyway, the board that ran the hospital (into the ground..lol) got the money for the purchase, and all debts were paid, were supposed to set-up a clinic that provided care and testing to indigent patients and/or work with existing free clinics to provide testing to indigent patients that qualified (under state law). It hasn't happened. Ah well.
