Has My Employer Any Responsibilities Once I Advise Them I Have Ptsd

PTSD has really been worn out quickly in courts due to the sheer amount of people who have used it as a defence, or tried to use it.

Most countries have that law, being "reasonable accommodation" within employment. Lawyers will love to tell you that you can sue for unfair work practices, but really, all that will happen is that you will give the lawyers lots of money, and get nothing from it... other than the loss of lawyer fee's.

When you lookup "reasonable accommodation" in law, especially "reasonable", then it's no longer reasonable if you are:
  • costing the employer ongoing costs that outweigh your employability,
  • abusing staff or customers on a regular basis,
  • not turning up due to sickness or injury on a regular basis,
  • etc etc...
Disclosing your illness to an employer does not make it legal to get away with costing an employer excessive costs that damage the businesses ability to stay in business, make a profit, or to perform the duties required.
If you had a melt-down once a month, that is reasonable. Weekly, daily... that is no longer reasonable, and you will lose in a court of law.

It is kind of why I said that eventually yourself has to really think about if this job is for you anymore. I myself feel lucky that I was able to come back to work after missing 3 months due to illness related to ptsd. Though I told my boss that I was not expecting to be able to return to my job due to business, he assured me that I was never in any danger. I feel it was a lie or half truth based on the fact that I was ill during the slow season and was able to use other employees to pick up my slack. Another month and he probably would have let me go, because business is business no matter how friendly your boss is. Like I said before though, "If your boss doesn't want you anymore, there are things that can be done legally to make you want to leave."

I have been given lots of support once I had diagnosis, but probably because my PTSD was triggered by work and Occupational Health report written, in any case no-one else wants my job, I have tried to give it up in the past!
