Health Monitoring - Jawbone Or Equivalent... Do You?

That was all one reason why I didn't choose the fitbit... not the lack of water proof, as UP isn't either, but more that UP is a single band you put on your wrist. The fitbit required another bit to hold it on your wrist... and if it wasn't on my wrist, it would end up in the wash for certain. This way... it is in my face, I don't forget to turn it onto night before sleep, nor day when I wake, nor take it off to shower. A little bit more cost wise, though I figured for my brain... the better option.

They sell both at the local sports store. Fitbit had a wristband one that was recalled due to allergy concerns when I originally ordered my fitbit one. And it did work properly after the spin cycle, lol. Does your Jawbone come with a dongle that doesn't fall apart on its own? Or is it totally self contained? I could do without a dongle. Just another part to lose or destroy for me.

It is all self contained, a single bracelet you stick on your wrist.

What you see is it...

Mine is the UP24... The difference is the UP you connect to your phone manually, the UP24 is bluetooth and constantly updating to your phone UP app.

Yes they do... that is where I saw them for the first time, actually.

I appreciate this thread as I need to do something and have been debating on the right purchase with a finite budget. I have an apple phone so the Jaw bone sounds like a better option than the gym for me, although with my senior discount it is relatively cheap.

Could you offer Anthony the total upstart figure US? Any hints on purchasing it cheaper somehow? I will spend effort researching but I find you to be quite informed, so I thought I give you a holler.

Have a great day.

Well, I have to say, so far Fitbit's customer service has been good. I informed Fitbit that my unit went through a spin in the washer, but had been working. Now it is refusing to synch with the dongle. It still counts steps etc, but it will not upload to my computer even though the dongle recognizes that there is a device. Fitbit is sending me a whole new system including the dongle. So I guess I will stick with it unless it breaks again. There are only so many times they will replace the unit I would imagine.

I think anything technological can have issues. My UP24 is giving me some battery recognition issues at present, being it says fully charged, then needs charging, to is half charged. Followed Jawbones instructions and so far it is ok, though I think the battery has gone faulty as it is losing charge too fast after just two months. I have to contact them yet, but reading others who had the same issue, they did the same thing and just replaced the item pronto for them. I think these companies expect a certain amount of bands / dongles to have issues.

If it is under warranty, then it is their problem, not the purchaser. I get annoyed though on reading some reviews of these products, where people buy them, they get a faulty one or some issue, then bag the shit out of the item, discarding all the good they enjoyed, or simply that technological products sometimes just have issues and you may need to get it replaced.

Hells bells, they are giving me a new one and I admitted it went through the wash. I would think that most companies would give you the evil eye after that. But now, would I recommend them to someone else? I think mine has a glitch in the system, but they are certainly reaching out to make me a happy camper, so I would recommend them. The thing still works, my 24 hours starts somewhere around 2 AM and it doesn't synch with the computer, but it is still counting steps, stairs, calories and miles. And they are sending me a whole new replacement, from the dongle to the recharger and the fit bit itself. So I for one cannot complain.

Yup... that is seriously awesome service. I've just sent the contact request for mine to Jawbone... so I will tell when they reply within 48hrs. I hope I don't have to send it away... that will be annoying.
