Thanks for the condolences, forum friends. Since I couldn't go to the funeral (about 2-3 days drive or US$800 flight away), I remembered Vivien by wearing one of the "African" dresses she gave me.
When some insensitive scum told me not to be so sad about it, because "these people are used to dying young." I told her, "Thank you for giving me something to say to you when your friend or relative dies. I'm sure that 'your' people are also used to people dying." I was proud of myself that I could allow myself to feel. I didn't "wallow" in pity, nor do my normal thing of just working hard so I'd bury it.
Thanks again for your concern. Vivian's husband Stephen has his hands full with 3 girls from 14-20.
