Sorry. I just heard that my friend, co-worker and "sister" died. Vivien was very special to me. Since we are the same age, we decided that we were twins--one American and one Zambian.

I don't know about the funeral.

Thanks for the condolences, forum friends. Since I couldn't go to the funeral (about 2-3 days drive or US$800 flight away), I remembered Vivien by wearing one of the "African" dresses she gave me.

When some insensitive scum told me not to be so sad about it, because "these people are used to dying young." I told her, "Thank you for giving me something to say to you when your friend or relative dies. I'm sure that 'your' people are also used to people dying." I was proud of myself that I could allow myself to feel. I didn't "wallow" in pity, nor do my normal thing of just working hard so I'd bury it.

Thanks again for your concern. Vivian's husband Stephen has his hands full with 3 girls from 14-20.

Hi Beth,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss ... how sad! I am pleased to hear that you stood up for yourself and validated your emotions - well done! How very sad for Stephan and his girls too ... this must be so very difficult for them.

Sending hugs and positive energy.

Thanks ALL for the encouragement, thoughts, good wishes and prayers in the death of my "sister" Vivien.

Through the week, I spoke to friends there in Zambia and spoke to Stephen (Vivien's husband) yesterday (Sat) afternoon. He appreciates your thoughts and prayers in this new life of Mr Mom to the 3 teen/young adult girls besides his work.

Thanks for being there. You guys (I say that for both men and ladies) are GREAT! :thumbs-up

Best wishes for all of you...

So sorry to hear about your loss. Best wishes to everyone close to you and your friend. And :occasion: for not taking that mean person's crap!

Peace be with you.

I hope that things get better for you, and that your friends husband and children will all be ok. I am sorry for you loss...

Sorry to hear of her death; I can only imagine how hard it is for her husband and children. You are a good friend.

Yes, dismiss those thoughtless comments from the mouth of someone whom I am proud that you verbally slapped some common sense and courtesy into. Her death may be even more painful because she was too young, living on a continent where there is way too much death for the world to become desensitized.
