I have managed to get back on the site - am really happy I have found it because I don't think there is any comparable site with so much valid information on PTSD.

I came to this site completely ignorant of PTSD and I feel (now) that I can really understand why my SO flies into rages so easily. I think the presentations really explain how a soldier is 'brainwashed' into fight mode and as much my partner could only tolerate watching a few slides, as the evening progressed I could see it was having a more positive effect and he started opening up.

Sorry to go on so much, but also the information on alcohol from Anthony has cleared up so much confusion for both me and my partner.

I have never really known whether my SO was an alcoholic (in the true sense) or just 'mad' when he drank too much. Doctors have been confused also because when given the usual detox meds he never really seemed to need them. Never had the shakes, hallucinations etc etc. One doctor actually told him that he didn't think he was an alcoholic.

However, he clearly could not tolerate too much alcohol without sliding into depression, violence etc etc. The explanations of Use of alcohol, followed by Abuse through to Dependance really clarified this for me.

I feel a lot more positive and my SO will be going to specialised therapy for veterans suffering from PTSD (a very new project in our area) so coupled with finding this site, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel at long last.

Thanks again for the advice/support and fantastic information. (I am in work at the moment so will have to log out) I think we're all on different time zones anyway but will keep logging in an out as much as I can.

Helena,

Welcome to the site! You have come to the right place for support and knowledge. I'm fairly new to the site myself (a few months now) and I continue to be enlightened every day.

I wish you and your SO the very best in your journey through treatment and therapy. Don't forget to take care of YOU first. You are no good to the relationship if you don't keep yourself strong as well.

Your fellow Carer,

Cynthia
