Hello,
I have been a member since June 2014. I have not actively participated in chat nor have I posted in the forums. I am a lurker. I have benefited from the knowledge and experience of other members posts. Just knowing that I am not the only person who suffers this awful condition, has helped me to cope.

I was diagnosed with PTSD about 2 years ago from trauma that I endured as a child and into early adulthood. I was pregnant at age 14. I raised my child alone as her father committed suicide when she only 4 years old. I somehow kept it all together for the most part while she was growing up. Shes 19 now, in college, and last semester was on the Presidents list with a 4.0!(Sorry proud mama moment). It was only after she didn't require all my attention that the symptoms of PTSD began with a vengeance.

I would like to TRY to participate in the forums more. For me one of my biggest challenges is in trust and making friends. I feel alone a lot as a result. Thanks for reading my post.. Ember

Welcome Ember! Your pride in your strong work of raising your daughter is wonderful to hear. Yes, your joy and pride is wonderful!

And as you shifted your focus from your daughter, I imagine it was a shock to have the past event flood into your mind. Glad you shared about what you are going through, so we could all support you. In my own way I had this happen. It helped to actively connect to safe and grounded people.

I look forward to knowing more about you. Thank you so much for sharing!

Welcome to the forums Ember.

I agree with everyone else, you should be a proud parent! It's funny how we can keep it together for our kids, then when they get older and don't need us as much and we have "time on our hands and minds".... We then fall apart as things rush at us from our past. I too was abused as a child -teen until I had the strength to stop it at age 17. I kept it hidden until last year (35yrs) and am now dealing with everything. So you are NOT alone. ;) I'm glad you are here and on your way to getting better. ♡ Raven
