Hi, Looking For Ip Info On Sp In Balt.

Hi everyone.

I have been accepted to Sheppard Pratt's Trauma unit for inpatient treatment. I have complex ptsd resulting from childhood trauma and sexual abuse. However, as I didn't start the ball rolling with regard to going to SP myself (husband and therapist did while I was in patient for an od), I am very hesitant (to say the least). It's touted to be one of the country's best trauma units. I'd like to hear experience from real people, not their website. I live in south texas, and would have to fly there next week. I'm afraid of going to 21-28 day program that far from my (current) home. I am from the dc area, however I have never heard of Sheppard Pratt until my therapist mentioned getting me into a trauma program (there's not a one in texas, she said).

Any reviews or knowledge of the program would be so helpful.

Welcome tothe forum jaerc. This seems all so overwhelming for you now. I'm from Canada so, no can't say much on that program. But I just couldn't leave you without saying .. .hey, we're here to support you during your hard times.

I don't know anything specifically about SP's trauma program, but I used to live and teach in Balto County and know that the hospital seemed to have a good, strong reputation in the area. I did there go once (if I remember correctly - it's been some time ago) for a nerve conduction test related to a foot injury. Good luck and hope you get well soon! :tup:

Thank you redheaded! :) I won't be headed to SP anytime soon, thankfully. I decided, along with my husband and T to do more therapy sessions per week here in Texas, along with support group meetings. We'll be keeping SP on our "backup" emergency plan list. Praying I won't need it; however I know it's smart to have a plan in place for just in case.

I live in Baltimore and am very familiar with Sheppard Pratt's trauma unit, although not as a patient. I work in the medical field at another hospital in the Baltimore area, and I'm familiar with their wonderful reputation, and the excellent reputations of the physicians/staff there. Their trauma unit is known for their work with the survivors of childhood sexual abuse and trauma. It also helps that SP has a very picturesque campus. A very close friend of mine also lives in Balt. and she was the one who helped me find SP (she works at JH). I know the "resort" is QUITE pretty. What I have in my back up plan is inpatient, locked down ... doubtfully as pretty as the privately funded, more expensive resort! ;)

I saw your response about SP being a back up plan right after I posted. Hopefully, it will remain a back up plan that you never need. Best of luck with your current plan. Sayre
