New Here
Hi all. Feeling kinda nervous about being here since I have a lot of issues with admitting I was sexually abused. Stupid, I know, especially given I've counseled others on this before, but we always treat ourselves differently right? But there was no gun to my head, so...anyways. Part of why Im here. I think being able to see others work through the PTSD and share similiar stories might help me. Thats the hope at least.

Im in counseling, am in a good relationship now, and looking forward to making friends and learning :)

Hello Umayjihan,
Welcome to the forum.

It is perfectly natural to find it hard to 'admit' to being sexualy abused. We carry certain elements of shame and negative emotion surrounding the event(s), which make it hard to be open about
It's good to hear you have positives in your life. Having support will help you to move forward.

Hello. What I'm understanding is that you have difficulties with accepting the abuse because there was no gun to your head? If that's the idea, I understand completely where you're coming from. I was raped twice and none of the perpetrators used a gun on me. But it was still rape. In both cases. Forcing sexual activities on another is sexual abuse, no matter the methods used - physical force, drugs, mind control, etc...

Anyway, welcome to the forum, I hope it helps you.

My therapist, who specialises in trauma and more specifically in sexual abuse/rape has stated, on more that one occasion that the majority of sexual abuse/ rape does not involve a weapon.

I have found the following statistic from a 1994 study in USA

Use of Weapons

In rapes/sexual assaults involving strangers, weapons were known to be used in 20.3% of the incidents. Of these, 8.8% used a firearm (hand gun) and 11.5% used a knife. In rapes/sexual assaults involving nonstrangers, weapons were known to be used in 15% of the incidents. Of these, 4.2% used a firearm (hand gun); 5.4% used a knife or sharp object, and 2% used some other weapon.
