Hello, my name is Tom, I am 39 years old from Rhode Island.

As you can tell I am a Navy Veteran. I was recently diagnosed with PTSD because throughout the years during and after discharge I self-medicated with alcohol and stopped drinking. I realize that I have major anxiety, depression and insomnia. I have severe nightmares with broken REM sleep.

I had many issues while in the military from imprisonment to being jumped and beaten by a handful of US Marines. I served on the USS New Orleans. The ships purpose is to transport the Marines and helicopters to their ground destination. While on a port call, I was waiting alone for a bus to take me back to my ship when I was jumped by the Marines unprovoked.

I still have anger and fear today from the beating I've received. I had a lot of issues while serving and in the past year I had similar situations that I went though and triggered my PTSD to another level.

I hope to meet some friends that can identify what I am going through and understand how people cope with this on daily basis.

Hi Tommy! So sorry to hear you had to go through such an awful time serving as a Navy Vet. That is certainly tough circumstances to deal with! Congratulations on stopping drinking and taking the steps you need to cope with your PTSD. This forum has threads for coping and understanding the issues we suffer with. The wiki has information for a variety of information. I personally did not serve and I thank you for your sacrifices. You will find most of the members very helpful. Welcome to the forum!

Hi and welcome to the forum. There is another site my combat something or other. It shows up when you log on. You might find that useful. Mabe someone will come along that can direct you better. I understand having hard feelings for being jumped and beat up. I think you are normal for what you have been through. This is a place of healing and I hope it helps you as much as it helps me. It is nice to meet you.

The other site is My Combat PTSD and I can see the link to that at the bottom of this page :)

Both sites great for understanding, support and advice and I hope you find this one as helpful as I do.

Hi Tommy, thank you for your service and sacrifices you have made. There is no quick fix for what you are now going through. However, you will find many people on this Forum who also served in a Defence Force and acquired PTSD and other illnesses. I hope you find this Forum helpful, welcome.

I am having a very bad past couple of weeks. Sleep problems dreams and anger from outta nowhere, My wife is pretty upset with me and I really dont know what to do. I have seen some pretty bad things and they haunt me, no dog me constantly. I have lived with this nightmare for 12 long years, Its hard to find anyone to talk to about it and if I try I get some pretty funny looks. I am alone in this and I am afraid most of the time. My work suffers and my homelife aint great eather. I have a problem with going out with friends of which I really dont have many and I dont like even small crowds of people so thats a problem. I even sit in certain places when in church or when eating out because I have to feel safe and be able to see everything around me.

I have pretty much been ruled by this thing for a long time, however over the past two weeks its been impossiable to deal with. All my go to thoughts and ideas that hold me in check have just stopped working for no reason. I am so tired of being "ON POINT".....Sounds, smells, and reflections of light, shadows etc. they all are so accute to me 24/7. I really need help.
