I go to a practice for my counseling and pychiatry needs that is through people who practice holistic medicine.
I do the EFT work which is tapping on Meridian points in your body. You use negative thinking or trauma related type stuff to help you turn your thinking around. It has been really helpful.
I use to be grounded in the idea that I was a failure. Through using EFT and another resource EMDR I have been able to change my thinking and also settle some of the trauma related stuff going through my head.
My Pychiatrist she is very helpful when it comes to nutrition. She has worked very hard with me to get off some of the medications. I have a few supplements that she asked me to take. I like the idea better than a lot of the other medications that are out there. She has also taught me some things about healthy eating. She's very educated on different foods and how the affect different people. She's done blood work that other doctor's haven't been willing to do. Through that I found that I needed certain vitamins rather than other medication.
Instead of drowning me with pills. She actually listens. Offers books and other resources to help me work through my issues. It may seem weird for a doctor to tell you to write a book or do homework. Sometimes those kind of assignments really challenge us.
One time she had me write down my core beliefs. Then I worked with my therapist to challenge those beliefs.
It's a whole different experience with this kind of stuff. I had been through other therapies in the past: DBT, CBT, and inpatient treatment. I gained ideas from those other therapies but they didn't sink in like this stuff does.
The EFT stuff I can do on my own. There also videos on the internet on it. They are on different topics. It's great stuff.
