Honouring The Heroes

A UK event has been on the news tonight, honouring the heroes. These guys are severely physically disabled, men who had lost 2 or 3 limbs, one guy was also facially disfigured, all had served in recent conflicts. Shocking to see but it made me realise, in such sharp focus, that PTSD cannot be recognised in this way. If you stood someone with the physical disabilities side by side with someone with PTSD most people would not believe the person with PTSD has at least as much to deal with. At least with the physical you know what it is and in no way am I belittling physical disability. But this was such a lightbulb moment for me.

that is the problem with psychological conditions. What makes it worse is that in the military if you say something about what's going on inside your head, because it can't be seen, people think your justing bunging it on. Next thing you know your labelled lazy someone who goes jack on their mates.

The other thing which makes PTSD really hard is that you have to convince someone that you actually have a problem before you can get help. If we were missing a limb then we wouldn't have to prove that we were missing a limb to get help.
