Hospital Delays Are Killing America's War Veterans

What made me angry today? Well this really pissed me off...

"What's worse, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is aware of the problems and has done almost nothing to effectively prevent veterans dying from delays in care, according to documents obtained by CNN and interviews with numerous experts."

"The documents obtained by CNN show that only a third of that $1 million from Congress was used for its intended purpose at Dorn: to pay for care for veterans on a waiting list.

The VA "will say, 'we redirected those dollars to go somewhere it was needed,' " Miller said. "Where would it be more needed than to prevent the deaths of veterans?"

I don't know if this is the right # to call, but something HAS to be done about this travesty of justice. Call the number and make our voices heard. I will call tomorrow afternoon and update if this number is the right number to call. If anybody beats me to it, please update this thread with a post.

Personally, I had to wait almost a month for a simple follow up with my doc. My visit is tomorrow, that's why I'm not calling the number above early. Almost every appointment I've made in the last year, have had a minimum of several weeks to over a month.

They are using the strategy of waiting us out, till we die off to save money.

This is my post on CNN comments section below the article. I repeat, this is not directed at this forum, it was posted on CNN to all 1793 people who had posted in that article's comment section.

  • If everyone who is bitching on this forum actually got off their dead a$$es and contacted their elected officials and told them they were going to be held accountable for their actions (voting record and public hearings WITH RESULTS) something might actually happen to remedy this situation.
I bet not a single person on this forum will make ANY effort to fix this situation. Unfortunately, the interweb doesn't work that way and this will just be all forgotten by the time you all shut off your computers. THAT is also a horrible disgrace. Way to go hypocrites....
Prove me wrong PLEASE. Follow up with a post of who you contacted including the phone number or address, and how that conversation went.
I WILL be contacting as many people I can that can actually do something about this in the morning. I WILL stand up for our vets (I'm one, 20 years retired, service connected disabled).

This is a sad state of affairs, for sure. I have to be the cynical bastard that I am but here it is. I've fought the VA and the 'system' for more than 40years. The fight will never be over, never. If anyone thinks that writing a few letters to our elected officials is going to change something, anything I hate to say that I just don't believe it will. The government today is a joke and the people in are worse than a joke. I would just point out one instance; the gov't shutdown. They're the worse bunch of patronizing fools that I've ever seen.

If you want something to change you have to do it, I mean you and your own care. No one ever came to me to help. No veterans group, no gov't group, family or friends. When things were at their worse I was the one that had to go out and make it change. I never once looked for help especially from a gov't agency.

The DAV was marginally helpful in filing the proper paperwork for my last claim but that's it. Other than that they're just another 'group' with a political agenda.

If I knew then what I know now I would never have gone in the service, although I didn't have a choice as there was a draft. I'd probably leave the country.

If you become proactive as you suggest all that will happen is that you'll be on a watch list that the gov't has of all people that cause trouble. If you don't believe that I've got a few stories to tell about that.

Is it despicable that vets are treated this way, yes. Will it change, no. As always just my opinions in response to a thread. Everyone's entitled to their own and me as well.

I've been thinking about this all night, including some pretty weird dreams last night. I fear you are right Jar. This morning I woke up pretty depressed instead of angry. I'll probably post here later after my appointment. I'm out of time for now.

As for the watch list, I'm sure everyone who posts here is already on one with Homeland Security, NSA's, etc, over reach and all. Some days I don't even want to wake up, let alone be part of this world. I was born and raised to keep my promises, and not promise something I have no intention or ability to follow through with. Sometimes my naivete gets the better of me.

Been on the band wagon now for a long time. Went to the VA. Went to the VA's boss. GAO, VAOIG. Then congress. And then finally the prez hisself. What did it get us Vets? Well, it got me put on a terrorist list. But it didn't do shit to help any body.

This government is out of control and I don't think there's a damn thing we can do about it.

I was vocal about the war in VietNam. My phone was tapped and cops were in my driveway or down the road every night. They just wanted me know they were watching. Now it's more insidious with pc's and the internet. All they have to do is check with your ip provider to know your complete online history. Cameras everywhere we go, gps in your phone.

1984 is already here.

Same-sameo here. Only they know that I know that they.......... Don't carry my phone, anywhere. Guys at the lube shop get an extra twenty for any GPS device on my Jeep. Paranoid delusional. That's my name, well, people have called me that for so long....

Now, I find my phone company had been giving all our phone records, including conversations to the Fed. Hmmm. Thought I said that at one time. Proved to myself that there were way too many connections to my computer from the internet for just logging onto Vet sites. So, I started running down those pesky little IP addys. Gee. Why would the DHS want so many connections on my computer?

And you can't do a damn thing about it, trust me.

So, they tear the shit out of my computer every time I say something against the Gov or the VA and I paste everything back together and motor on. Yep, delusional, all those revelations of the last few months in the news are a mirage.

PD, er. Sarg

The VA is a huge blackhole - the more money you throw at it the more inefficient and blotted it gets. Sarge and Jar have been beating their heads against the wall a lot longer that I, yet in the past 5 years dealing with them I've seen a remarkable change. NOT for the better either. I have appeals waiting for 2-3 years to be heard, what took 3-4 weeks for an appointment now is 6-8 weeks. Also don't miss one because your shit will end up in that blackhole - LOST (if not forever).

You boy's seem to be payiing attention, you'd be supprised how many of our brothers are detatched from the situation.

Frankly, they can call me what ever they want - if the bastards want you you'll be the first to know. Trust me on this one. All you have to do is look around and the FED is doubling-down to protect their turf. Can we ever have enough sub branches of the major LE agency's. It's to a point now you don't know where jurisdiction begins and ends. This is just the confusion the the regime is creating so as when things begin to unravel in steps the brownshirts. It will make 1984 look like a live story.

Whether you were drafted or you volunteered, you served your country. We all did the best we could. We put our lives on the line and did what we had to. If no one had made us any 'promises' for health care or jobs or what ever we still would have done it all.

But damnit, if you promise me something then keep your end of the bargain just as we did. Don't make me have to fight my whole life for it like I have. That's the part that truly pisses me off. And I see it being repeated over and over again with the vets of today. I'm still an angry white guy, now an old crazy, angry white guy. Too many adjectives already. I'm mad but sad also. This is my country, damit, we should be doing better than this.
