I must admit... this has to be possibly the most exciting research in actually heading towards a cure for PTSD:
The identification and better understanding of these neuronal circuits controlling fear behavior should allow the development of new treatment strategies for conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorders. "We could, for example, imagine the development of individual markers for these specific neurons, or the use of transmagnetic stimulation approaches to act directly on excitatory or inhibitory cells and reverse the phenomena."
They know where it is, they're now finding the specific markers in the pre-frontal cortex associated to fear response, both emotional and behavioural... which just equals exciting research possibilities. The type of treatment could eventually be an imaging process whilst your specific markers are identified, then corrected via an unknown means, actually completely reversing the neuronal damage. Just WOW...
