How Do I Put A Pet Down?

Im so sorry about your pet we lost our two dogs end of last year they were both 15 yo and had bad arthritis it was terrible watching the pain.
I feel your pain and grief , it is so important not to keep your pet going for you that just prolongs your loved pets suffering, it is very hard to make the decision and you will feel the greif and pain, I did and still do, but you will have beutiful memories of the happiness and love they give you. My thoughts are with you God bless

Thank you all. I have still "wussed out". In the AM when I try to take her out she lays down in protest and if I finally get her to stand she tries to go in a bed room hating going out now. Just I got her during hubby #2... All through #3 and here all the way so far for #4. Just every few days she will lift her head and perk ears and I feel horrible for thinking she is not here.

I am going to the vet tomorrow for Cookie's meds and will speak to the vet. I do not know how much it will cost but do know the cremation and urn are to run about 7 - 800 dollars.

I have rescued, literally, hundreds of animals. I have had to see many animals euthanized. It breaks my heart, every time.

In the past few years, I have lost 2 cats to old age, that I have chosen not to have euthanized. Here's why: They did not seem to be in agonizing pain. They were weak and tired, and their bodies were shutting down, but they did not seem to be in great pain.

In both cases, they were laying in a warm, comfortable place, with me right beside them, when they passed. The last moments ended in a sort of seizure, then they were gone.

If your pet is in great pain, euthansia would be the more compassionate option.

I feel very much at peace, knowing my cats died without having their last moments filled with the fear of going to the vet and being put down.

Listen to your vet's advice, but trust your instincts.

I'm not sure where you live, but I have always buried my loved ones, and planted a tree or flowering bush on their graves. When they cremate pets, they often cremate many animals at a time, then divide the ashes.
