How Often Do You Meet With Your T?

so far I've been meeting with him once a week, because for me, a lot happens in a week. but I'm just curious to know how often you meet with your T? I like that it's a consistent once a week meeting, and I feel very safe in his office so I enjoy going to meet with him, and I hope it doesn't change to drastically. I wouldn't be able to cope.

I see my emdr therapist once a week and the cbt/talk therapist every two weeks. Been like this about a year but in the past it varied depending on how I was doing

When I went, it was 2 hours once every 2 weeks, and he wanted me there 2-3x per week... so we ended up splitting the difference @ zero. ;) Which is totally fair. When you're under someone's care, there's a responsibility there. He was more than willing to provide the level of care he thought was needed, I wasn't willing/able to take the recommendation. So it was an amicable split. He was a good guy.

((Other factors went in; his office was 5 hours away from where I lived, & I couldn't afford him even at twice a month. I'd have been willing if I was able. I simply wasn't able at that time. Lol. Or now for that matter. $1500 a month is a lot of money.))

Hi Hypothermia!

Welcome to the forum!

2 days/ week with Somatic Experiencing/ & multiple-therapies trauma T
1 day/ week with EMDR specialist & multiple-therapies trauma T
So, 3 hrs/ week plus practice/homework.

This is a major reduction from 2 hours 5x/ week with my first therapist, who didn't know a thing about trauma therapy, but was trying to keep me from offing myself during flashbacks; plus 4 hrs/ week with a sexual assault therapist and group.
That was a minimum of 14 hrs/ week.

I figure I've gotten the equivalent of several university degrees: ($ expense and learning - they're also university professors. One therapist took me on rounds, asking me to do joint therapy and role-playing to help other clients, and teaching relationship/bereavement groups with him.) No hospitalizations, because of intensive working with therapists who know me better than anyone else (and still they put up with me:woot:).

You certainly don't have to put in this amount of time or money. I'm just very motivated to survive, grow beyond trauma into life. I am willing to put everything I have into my own transformation - and then use what I've learned to help others if I can

I see mine once a week for 2 hours.

For about three or four months starting around this time last year I was seeing her twice a week (1 x 2 hour session and 1 x 1 hour session), but that's because I wasn't doing very well and we agreed that the extra support would be helpful - I was off sick from work as I'd had a meltdown, so I had the time to do that and found that structure of twice a week useful.

I'm not doing great at the moment and would probably benefit from twice a week again now. But she's quite a distance from me and I can't really afford to take that much time out of two days. Plus it's too expensive for me to go more often at the moment.

We only get one every two weeks in uk - nhs, it's not enough. No wonder Britain is the "sick man" of Europe :dead:

Once a week for two full hours - that's NHS, but I suspect T is providing the second hour off the record as we meet away from their premises

One hour once a week (but I'm privste not NHS). My T's only part time, so I'm not sure what would happen if I did need the extra support.

Do you have any reason to think it might change? Or is it just a nagging concern?

I see my therapist two times a week for about 2 hours. Sometimes we meet more or less often depending on what is going on. I am also looking for additional supports such a DBT class or a support group, and a psychiatrist, but so far no luck on those fronts.
