How Often Do You See A Therapist?

Oh, no, the Psychiatrist that I was told to see for a review (as a one-off) is $750 for a session. The one I'm seeing is bulk billed for 10 sessions a year. I've booked as far in advance as they have open so far.

Psychiatrist - as needed for medication.
Psychologist - For the first two years it was weekly, this last year it's every other week. A few months ago, my T tried to make it once every three weeks, but I told him it was not enough, and I would quit if it wasn't set back to every other week. It was reset to bi-weekly.

On the 27th I Start an anger manament/aggression class once a week for 12 weeks.

I can only claim a number of sessions under insurance so there is a limited number of sessions that I can go for. I usually see my T every two weeks, sometimes she goes on vacation and I have a one month break. T has suggested that I start going more often for now so we're switching to weekly sessions. I am considered pretty high functioning since I manage to make it to my classes so I guess that's why I used to go for so few sessions.

I have 10 sessions per calendar year, so since it's only just started I could go more often then next year only go 10 times through the year. Unless that's cut.

I have been seeing my therapist about six months and I have two set appointments per week, but she works online with lots of availability, one of the initial reasons I chose therapy via the format I did, so I typically work with her maybe four times per week, with occasional multi-day breaks as we travel or have other obligations. I've found that it supports amazing progress for her to have a day-to-day sense of my struggles, to work with her right in the heat of a difficult moment, and I'm so glad I have been. It makes for a strong therapeutic relationship for us to both be so committed. However, although her rates are relatively low, it is expensive for me, paying out of pocket, and I have to cut back. I know it's very hard to be limited in therapy, I hope you find service providers who can help you where you're at on a more regular basis!!

At first it was 2x a week. Then it was once a week, then just twice a month. I had an 8 month break and when I went back it just didn't feel right because I feel that most therapists keep you talking about your problems and I'm waaay past the point of needing to just talk. I need to "do" and since I can do that on my own without the weekly rollercoaster of symptoms, that is what I choose to do for now.

She read the reports from the police and hospital, the statement from me and my daughter, the forensic records, so she knew what happened to start with. Our sessions are about doing things and learning strategies rather than talking about what happened.
