New Here
My husband who suffers from severe PTSD and chemical dependency went to our local VA substance abuse inpatient program yesterday which would be followed up by the PRRTP program.
He has been depressed lately the worst I've seen and he told the staff he was feeling severely depressed. They decided this meant suicidal which resulted in him being confined while they waited for the campus doctor to get to him. The doctor was 2 hours out so instead of waiting and talking with my husband the doctor told them to go ahead and admit him to Psych. He confided in me that he will NOT ever tell them how he really feels ever again because if you mention depression they want to lock you up.
My husband called me upset and not wanting to go to Psych because he is NOT suicidal. Because he tried to walk back to his room they called campus police which escorted him over to Psych.
The Psych ward here does not allow any personal belongings like phones, cigs, anything with strings, etc, so he can't even wear a lot of his own clothing. Being in lock down just agitates my husband even more.
I understand that an involuntary hold can be done if they feel you are a danger to yourself but how long can this hold last and how can I get him out quickly? He wants to go back to the substance abuse treatment but I fear he may not even do that after this ordeal.
How long can they hold him in psych? I always thought it was 72 hours but I was told earlier they can get a court order to hold him longer if they want.
