Other Hypoglycemia and ptsd?

@Lucycat I knew I forgot something in that post.. Anyways, since I've become diabetic, I now have to worry about hypoglycemia as well. Just a few weeks ago I was at a flea market and nearly fell out because my blood sugar got too low. Once the regulatory systems go haywire, everything goes haywire. That's what I was trying to get at.

So yeah, I have to take metformin, drink gallons of water a day, go exercise all the time, and still carry candy bars around in case I overdo it... Like I said, HUGE pain in the ass...

A big part of the chemical side of PTSD and the other stress responses (I'll include depression in this too, as it results in long term elevation of stress hormone levels) is ragingly high levels of the cortisol stress hormones, for long periods of time - weeks, months and years - instead of the short periods of seconds or minutes that nature intended them to be elevated for.

High levels of cortisol (whether produced by your own body or from high doses of cortico steroid medications) really messes with your body's ability to regulate sugar levels and can lead to insulin resistance too.

Elevated cortisol gives a whole range of other nasty effects including possible suceptibility to hypo calceamia.

It's well worth telling whoever you are seeing that you are likely to have very high levels of stress hormones circulating long term.

Finding this thread really interesting.. I have been tested for diabetes a few times, the first when I was about 10 or so? Results were always negative, but I have most of the symptoms. I am around 90 lbs and I can get very hypoglycemic. Admitably, I am bad for not eating enough and I can start to feel very ill at times. But even at times when I was eating fairly well I was still vulnerable. Guess eventually I will have to learn how to take care of myself properly!
