Hi everyone! I am a 42 year old, married, mother of 2. I have a Master's degree and work full-time.

My diagnosises come from being an only child of two alcoholic parents, one of which had Borderline Personality Disorder.

I have been in therapy for 11 years and am still going. 10 years of inner-child work individually and in group. Then took 13 years off, and currently doing EMDR. Recovery is a long hard road, but I am thankful that I found this forum. It is hard to find people that understand, so I look forward to being a part of this supportive community.

Hi Marf. Welcome to the forum. I started therapy in 1972. I'll let you do the math on how many years...

These days I am feeling mostly functional and mostly doing maintenance. I feel like the maintenance is critical to remaining functional. Those symptoms keep creeping back and are easier to manage if I keep up with that pesky old maintenance.

Hi Marf, Glad you are here.
I remember when I was going through the thick of it and dang,,,no internet. Just a therapist and a friend. I would of been typing a lot back then,,,lol! To be able to help anyone going through the same stuff - it helps me. A wonderful circle. Happy Holidays. Remember to pamper yourself!

Hello Marf, good to have you on the Forum! From your years of work, I look forward to reading your contributions.

As Recovery Girl mentioned, it is a whole new world, with a support group available to you within moments or hours, after you post a concern. Many members, including myself, understand being raised by alcoholics and by someone with a psychological disorder.

Another great attribute of this site is that many people in this general forum, myself included, understand early and/or severe childhood abuse. The specific forum in this site for Sexual Abuse, can be a safe place, to vent and process those related issues. Groups that help survivors process their inherent atrocities have long since dwindled from my city-such topics of such gravity were difficult for group members to tolerate.

Hope you find support, and hope you feel at home.:)

Hi Marf!

Welcome! I hope here you'll find tons of good advice and shoulders to cry on when things are tough.

I'm familiar with the childhood abuse and having borderline parents as well. I admire you for investing your time and energy into therapy and recovering. I just started doing EMDR as well, sometime I'd like to hear how that's working for you! :)
