Hello All,

Good to meet you. I too believe that we are not our labels. I will do my best to be a comfortable citizen here. My story is related to PTSD and started in 1991 when I got married. Some of my friends on-line struggled too.

I'm looking for information about PTSD - and hoping to make some good friends along the way. I know from experience that y'all are good people. I'm seeing you not the label.

Hi Farine

Welcome to the forum.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for on here. There is a lot of useful information on the Home Page and around the forum, which will help you understand more of your ptsd issues.

As you post more of your story other members will relate to your story and offer help, advice and support.

Take care and good luck.

Love the title.
As Amethist said, I hope you find what you're looking for here. I hope, in your time, that you will be able to share your story.

Take care.

Thanks for the excellent welcome, FightingLily, Manic & Amethist!

I already spent like an hour and a half reading things here. I did find the information incredibly helpful. Hmm.. I wondering where I might start with a little backstory.

I mentioned I got married at 1991 (at age 21). My husband had PTSD and didn't get diagnosed, didn't get any help and stayed in denial the entire time I was with him. My parents really didn't express many of the situations that this rough and tumble world has to offer. This was all a big surprise to me.

Even when I voted with my feet and seperated, that did not get his attention enough to deal with it UNTIL we got divorced. I hear he's doing ok, and if it took my drastic action to get the ball rolling for him, then I guess that's an acceptable result.

I am still married to my 2nd husband and we have two girls together. I do have lingering issues from the first marriage which is mostly in hand. I'm pretty stable most of the time. The reason why I'm here is that I'm wanting to learn more about PTSD. I read recently that PTSD has no known cure. I know I had PTSD earlier.. the thought drifted in my mind.. hmm.. maybe..

I've done a lot of moving cross country recently. I'm trying to figure out if that has something to do with how I've been feeling lately.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Your right Farine, ptsd has no known cure, only recovery and management. But the first and most important step is professional diagnosis, from a reliable Doctor who maybe specialises in Trauma. Self diagnosis is never advised as you could be way off the mark.

Sometimes drastic action is the only way to help sufferers out of denial, glad to hear in one sense that this helped your ex to do this.

You say you know you HAD ptsd earlier, was this from diagnosis or just how you felt. As you already stated above, no known cure so you would still HAVE it if you did get that diagnosis in the past. It could also have been what is known as secondary ptsd, I suggest you read about this on the forum, as it is easier to understand than trying to explain it here.

I am not trying to say you do not have it, just explaining the difference, but maybe the issues from your first marriage is why you are still having problems. If you are then maybe a chat with a therapist as well as being here could help you find more of the answers you are searching for.

Take care of yourself and your family.

Sorry about the name misspell. I love the fact that you reached in and fixed it!!! Thank you Cragger for the hello!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, going to a science field trip. SHould be fun. I'm one of 3 chaperones. GO ME! My posting will likely slow down for little bit. I will be back more on Wednesday. I can already tell that I have alot of reading past posts ahead of me. WOW! There are books and books worth of posts here. And it's well done, from what I've seen. I'll be checking back here soon. Thanks again!
