Hi. I was hospitalized about 16 times in two years. About half of that is outpatient. I received several different diagnosis PTSD, severe major depression, borderline personality disorder, just to name a few. Anyway I applied for SSI and SSDI expecting to be denied since it's my first go around but I received a call today and they have predetermined that I
am eligible for disability. I can't believe it. I am grateful and humbled, I cannot believe this. It also makes me feel sad that I am considered disabled. Actually it's a lot of emotions at once.

Congratulations. Most people get turned down first time. I was. I know for me I felt relief because I was unable to work..so it took a lot of pressure off.

Congrats! I always felt like I was one of the lucky ones that I didn't get denied the first time. I get why you feel a little sad too. None of us would choose to be disabled, but not having to fight for disability makes it a bit easier.

I'm so glad for you! It's a huge relief to be able to sit down and pay the bills, isn't it? I was just thinking today about how it was one of the hardest times in my life waiting on SS disability and how great it was the day it came in and we sat down at the dining room table and paid up all our bills and paid back our friends with mega interest who covered our mortgage for some months. And, of course, all the mixed feelings. I'm still sore about needing it, still cry when I talk about it in therapy, but without it, we'd be homeless. I'm very glad you didn't have to appeal.

I am glad you have that burden lifted from you. I can understand your mixed emotions. While I am grateful for my leave I know this may go into long term disability and it breaks my heart, makes me angry with myself.
The benefits are there because you need them. Healing is your first priority.

I know that I am a very capable worker and I am proud of that, but I also know that there is irreversible damage there. Not sure what that is worth, just glad I can still work just to stay abreast of this frickin inflation.

Congratulations!!!! It's so much work and jumping through hoops. I'm glad you didn't get denied. Sometimes the system works!
I felt the same sadness when I got accepted too. It takes getting used to.

Your not alone in feeling like that. I was just past the 6 month waiting period when I was cut off workmens comp & applied for SSDI. I was approved with in 10 weeks time & the money was in my bank. I didn't even know it. As thankful & happy as I was to get it, I also was shocked to get it so fast. Then I felt really sad for I must be really be screwed up to get it that fast. It does take time to sink in & get use to.

I was insulted when I got SSDI in 4 months, lol. I was also grateful, but I hadn't come to terms on how sick I really was. I'm so glad you were approved.

Congratulations. I am glad you will be able to get the financial support you need. I understand having mixed emotions about it. It's not a judgement on you as a person. Work doesn't define who you are and that means not being able to work doesn't define who you are too.
