In Therapy I Learned That

@BlackbirdSinging Thank you.'s if you accept them.
I am hoping to use this to ground and be more proactive than reactive. I have been offered other techniques but they involve closing one's eyes and I can not do that during hypervigilance.

One lesson learned in therapy (that may or may not be applicable to others) was to trust my gut more instead of second guessing myself on alerts. Although, I may be more sensitive to surroundings at times that does not negate my body alerts nor confirm it. It is the same as a little warning system to be careful. I have to balance it of course and not let it take over, but it is best to respect myself on some safety issues.

There have been incidences where I avoided situations that were later on the news during that time and area. As well I read several articles for woman (on paper in the 80's) in Harvard Medical for Woman explaining the intake of sensory data such as in elevators or dark parking lots and how it is useful for protection. I have seen some studies on the neuro-firing patterns that recommend knowing one's internal cataloging.

Often in my self protection classes by police-people and during the "arts" those classes used the methods for awareness that we carefully monitor during our PTSD. Just a thought or opinion. I am not into proving it out, just offering my take from my experiences during therapy.;)

I learned in therapy that I'm not responsible for other people's actions. I learn that I am responsible for my reactions. I learned that if some close makes terrible decisions I don't have to take of their consequences. I also learned I did the best I could in a dysfunctional world with tools I had I've gained some self esteem
