Innocent life taken disturbing my sleep

In my line of work.... this happens...

I drive for a living, 300 miles a night, and most of it on US roads ( the ones before the interstate system was created) like US66

Well, tonight I killed a possum and a adolescent racoon.....

I had a nightmare last night and it involved two bikers hitting a deer on a blind curve that has no outs, and then the carnage as other traffic showed up and had no choice but to add to the misery....

So I'm not in a good place right now, focusing on the pain I inflicted on those two innocents.

Gonna be a rough day to sleep.....

My husband has taken out a deer, possum, snake, spun out a turtle, two birds and an unknown and that's all I can think of and he's not an over the road driver. It happens. Don't take it hard.

I understand that part, but my history involves so much more non combat loss of life.

Turns out this is a trigger for me, I focus on the physical pain I have inflicted.....

Aw that is so sad I I can understand how upsetting that it is for you. Be kind and gentle on yourself, accidents happen they are not fair but are not always someones fault. Dont self blame. take it easy.

I have a total melt down when I inadvertently harm an innocent creature so I get it. To me the simple creature/simple soul thing combined with innocence and the imposition of threat of death by "progress" is way way loaded. It harkens back to my own situation as a child, youth, teen, young woman and it can really cause me distress.

It takes me about 45 minutes to get home, because I take little country farm roads and drive about 30mph.

This gives me time to decompress and not to be hyper vigilante on my travels.

Tonight on my way home a kitten darted out and turned away from me and zig zagd down the road, then it stopped and sat down.

I was stopped at this point, and the kitten with it's back to me just sat there, until I hit the horn, up into the air it went and hit the ground running.

Still alive, and I was a mess again.... but for a different reason.....

I'll be able to sleep without any issues...
