Inpatient Veteran Mental Health Resource

VA GUY

New Here
I work with Veterans who are struggling with mental health, substance use, or both, and one of the biggest problems I continue to see is Veterans and their families simply not knowing what options are available when outpatient care isn’t enough.
There are inpatient treatment options for Veterans, including programs outside of a VA hospital that may be accessible through VA Community Care when appropriate. Depending on the situation, this can include treatment for primary mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring mental health and substance use issues.
A large part of what I do is help Veterans and families understand the process, who to contact, what to ask the VA for, and how to navigate the referral and authorization process. Transportation from other states can often be worked through as well, so being outside Florida doesn’t necessarily mean treatment here isn’t an option.
I’m not here to pressure anyone into treatment or tell someone that one particular program is right for them. I joined because I’ve spent years working with Veterans and the VA system, and if that experience can help someone get pointed in the right direction, I’m happy to help.
If you’re a Veteran or family member trying to figure out inpatient mental health or substance use treatment, feel free to reach out to me through the forum. Even if the program I work with isn’t the right fit, I’ll do my best to help you understand what options you may have.
