Hello! My name is Mike. I do not have PTSD, but the love of my life does. She has had a very difficult life, going back to being sexually abused as a child and then in an abusive marriage as an adult. We have been together since August 2013. We have lived together since December 2013. I can honestly say I don't know much about PTSD and what she is going through, but I have been trying my hardest to find any and all information and books that I can to help understand what she is going through. I am hoping that this forum will also help me and that I can meet others who are in the same situation.

Hi, I found that Shock Waves A Practical Guide to Living with a Loved One's PTSD by Cynthia Orange is a great book. Also, When Someone You Love Suffers From Posttraumatic Stress What to Expect and What you Can Do By Claudia Zayfert and Jason DeViva. Both these have helped me to at least understand what is going on, also a very important thing I did was to seek my own counseling. I tried to stay with the love of my life who is a sufferer but she insisted on leaving me. Hopefully yours will allow you to be involved in her healing. Have patience and give her space when she wants it. It is very difficult, but it sounds like you are willing to do anything to help her.
I'd like to see any other book suggestions too.....

Thank you for the suggestions, I will have to see if I can find those. Right now I'm currently reading Loving Someone With PTSD by Aphrodite T. Matsakis. I am absolutely willing to do anything and everything I can to help her. I just hope that she will continue to allow me to help her.

Hi mwill,

Check out the Supporters sections as there is a lot of information and also a group where you can find support for yourself.
