Having hurt and anger is a part of the human experience that is not supposed to be displayed openly. In ancient times, people tore their clothes in the Hebrew culture, and put dirt on themselves to show their grief or hurt condition.
I wish our culture had a way to acknowledge these emotions that respected and dignified the human experience in a supportive way. Other times, people had to wear black for a year to show the mourning. This was required as part of decorum and to keep others from flirting with a grieving widow(er).
Is there a way that this happens today? I have seen black arm bands. I do not know what is meant in most cases with these.
