Do you stop recalling them or do the terrible feelings that go with the memories fade away?
Right there.
How do you feel about your left shoe? Or cucumber sandwiches? Or the constellation Orion?
Probably not much, right? You’re fully
aware of them. Might like or dislike them. Can discuss them in detail with others, think about them if you cared to, look at them until you grow bored by it. There’s just nothing
earth shattering about your left shoe, cucmber sandwiches, or stars.
(Unless I have somehow stumbled over a trigger/stressor :whistling: Lets hope not, but if so? Replace with some other random object or event you just really don’t care that much about. Even if you
design shoes, are a chef, or an astronomer and are actually quite passionate about them, that passion still doesn’t equal Trauma, right?)
That’s what happens to fully processed trauma. It becomes normal.
Not normal like accepted. You don’t “accept” your shoes, right? Not normal like forgiven. Have you ever forgiven a sandwich? Normal like the stars, and what you ate for tea, and the sneakers or jimmy choose in your closet. Normal normal.
No reason to avoid it, no reaction gutting you, no :wtf::eek::mad::arghh;
Just the memory, sans terrible emotions, and life wrenching symptoms.
Pretty damn cool, right??? :D
Of course... it’s a royal pain in the ass to GET there, but the end result is pretty damn amazing.
