I'm sure many have heard in the news of the disappearance of Jayme Closs. She escaped her kidnapper after 88 days in a cabin an hour away from her home. I live in Wisconsin and the kidnapping happened about 3 hours away from me. I am a SA survivor and I am really struggling with the news. I used to like going out for runs around my city on my own. I always carry a phone with me. I just recently started to carry pepper spray. Jayme was kidnapped from her home by a man who saw her getting off the school bus. She didn't know who her kidnapper was and it was very random. This scares the crap out of me. I'm struggling to feel safe right now. I don't know if I really ever want to run outside by myself anymore. I can't imagine what that girl has gone through.

@Katiesue - I know that when violent events occur close to one it can be quite de-stabilising. But some things to remember...

According to my search on this matter....

The victim was 13 years old and the offender broke into her home, shot her parents and abducted her then he kept her for 88 days.
The offender has been apprehended and remains in custody.

Unfortunately everyone must be aware of their surroundings but if you stop doing what you love (within reason) what sort of life are you condemning yourself to having?
