Knitting As Therapy

I tried knitting again a few weeks ago. Never been much of a knitter, too impatient and the things I make always are too stretched and holy.

I bought 2 huge balls of multicoloured wool and cast on the correct amount of stitches for a scarf. I knitted a few rows. Then I got lost with counting stitches and what I was supposed to be doing knitting or pearling and I gave up. Those big balls of wool are sitting on my bedside table crying out to me "Make me into something"

Maybe I will just make the biggest pom pom ever.

I just picked up the needles again last night. I had a pair of fingerless gloves I'd been working on, and decided to finish them up. Then next... I'll make another pair for the next lucky person on my list. ;-)

Sorry, I tried again and it's not letting me post photos of my scarf.
Broken, have you checked to make sure your picture is saved as a JPG and not a BMP. My BMP file wouldn't upload so I imported them into paint, saved them as JPG and they uploaded fine. Just a thought. x

Here's the pattern for the fingerless gloves I've been making. I just made another pair for my youngest daughter, who wanted them for riding. I think I've made between 8 and 10 pairs now, and keep getting requests for more. I have a friend that is a photographer that loves the ones I made her because they allow her fingers to be free to work her camera equipment. I also have several friends who are bagpipers that find these to be perfect for playing outside in the cold. The yarn they reccommend for them is the stuff I've been using. VERY soft, and nice to work with. They're also really quick, so they're awesome if you need a quick gift to knock out in a weekend.

I think this might be my next project. I've made more basic socks before, but I want to try something just a bit more challenging. I bought a skein of silk and merino hand dyed yarn that is REALLY pretty, and just begging to be made into a scrumptious pair of socks. I'll try to remember to take pics when they're done!

What's everybody working on? It'll be fall soon in Chicago - perfect knitting weather!

It took me so long to do this cross stitch but I loved every minute! It's about 4 feet long and the frame was sooooo expensive but it makes me smile every time I see it. :)

Hey CC.......I am looking for the perfect Penguin Cross Stitch and that one is awesome! Is there any heads up where you might have gotten the pattern from. I've been searching everywhere! Thanks for all your help, the picture looks awesome!

Link sent Larry, sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, I haven't been around for a few days! Glad you liked the pengers!!!

I'm taken up knitting recently from a friend who has been knitting for 30+ years.

I knitted up some dish cloths and gave a few as gifts to my boyfriends mother. That went over really well.

I also took the same pattern and made coasters out of it.

The biggest project right now is a 10 stitch blanket.

I'm making it with many different colors of wool yarn. It's a long term project and fun.

Next month I'm giving socks a try. It's very enjoyable to make gifts for other people and it's super relaxing and calming. It really is therapeutic!

So happy you are finding knitting therapeutic! So important to support things that help!!!!! I don't knit because I have never learned but can appreciate the beautiful work and time that goes into it! I find art therapeutic. It's so great to have something that shows your accomplishment!!!

I love to crochet. It is very relaxing. I would not say I am addicted to it, but I do love verigated yarns the best. SOmething about the changing colors is so exciting and relaxing all at once. Then the repetition of the colors it so much fun to, knowing what color is coming before I see it.

I've been working on a pair of socks on some double pointed needles, size 5. I'm using worsted weight yarn (wool) instead of sock yarn (which is thinner and made with wool and nylon) since worsted is supposed to be easier to work with. It's practice for those smaller needle sock yarn socks I'll make later. I really enjoy it but I'm taking my time and trying to learn it well and enjoy myself.

Yarn itself is a big joy in knitting. There are so many types, so many materials and so many projects to make with such pretty yarns.

I've gotten requests for more coasters and my boyfriends son wants me to knit him a little coaster sized piece too; that he can carry around in his pocket as a blankie. I use straight needles for this, size 7. Takes a few hours to knit up but well worth it.
