Grainne, that is fantastic!!! You stuck it out and stood by your little guy, and that says so much about you as a mom. Congrats to you and your son (hugs).

Glad that things have finally worked out. Having a diagnosis helps so much at times. Now he can have the services that he is entitled too. My grandson has Aspergers, so I totally understand how you feel....I wouldn't trade Mike for anything either. Autism or not....

I'm glad you got a diagnosis. It's so important to get early intervention and he will get the help he needs in school. I am sure you feel relieved! You are your child's best advocate and you know what is best. He's lucky to have you as a mom!

that is great news! :occasion:

It is really unfortunate how hard it is to get kids who need help some help. My brother has dyslexia and they never helped him unfortunately and he eventually just gave up on school and got his GED... the only reason why I got help was because they thought I had sensory processing disorder.

I was diagnosed with "autistic tendencies" when I was 3 (in college that was amended to PDD-NOS, though I think it's Asperger's) and was in speech therapy for all of elementary school. Though for the life of me, back then I had no idea why, it was just something I had to do once a week, lol :)

Hi Grainne

I'm so happy for you - what a victory! I have a friend in Wisconsin with a 14 year old autistic son - if you'd like to connect with her for support I'd be happy to make the arrangement. She's very pro-active.

Congrats!

That is awesome..now you can also get some financial assistance..acsd and ssah..here in canada. I know when my son was dx and then given the special education he needed, it made all the difference. He was NOT integrated for years but the special class gave him the tools to move forward. He entered grade 9, fully integrated, managing and thriving and fully integrated again. He even joined the drama club!!!! There is hope and now you can move forward! We have to advocate for them..
