Let The Games Begin - London 2012 Olympics

Holy sh*t. I've just watched most of the closing ceremony. Way to party, music, dance, more music. I loved the Who, Baba O'riley' is one of my faves. Then the Spice Girls and Take That, my feet were dancing:rolleyes:.

At times I laughed, Eric Idle, Always look on the Bright Side of Life, at times I cried and at times I was crying and laughing.

I am so proud of the support and humour given by the public to these Games.

I can hardly wait for the Para Olympics starting at the end of August.

I know the next summer olympics are in Rio. And Rio is making all kinds of promises like they did for the paralympics that they didn't hold to. Basically what they're saying is that the rich people will get super rich from the olympics and the poor people will get screwed over for taxes etc. But they are cleaning up the crime.......... rrright.

I wouldn't be going there.

I said that to Nicolette. She didn't know about the high crime in Rio... more prominent, the high theft and kidnappings for ransom. Both near top of the list in Rio... of which I doubt they will clean either up prior to the olympics. If anything, it actually puts lots more rich people in the country to be kidnapped and ransomed back for thousands of dollars. It also puts lots more pockets loaded with cash and credit cards to be skimmed from unsuspecting persons thinking their "safe" in Rio.

That is a laugh.... the crooks will be preparing already for their biggest scores.

I was thinking similar things about Rio.

My Sister was over there on business and every time she left the hotel she had to be chauffeur driven by an armed driver! Very scary! And she said the poverty was a terrible thing to see, broke her heart.

Way to party, music, dance, more music.

It was great wasn't it KP (except for George Michael who has really had his day). I loved the Who, Pet Shop Boys, the Bowie tribute, Brian May and Elbow.

Eric Idle was very good (big Monty Python fan) and the whole atmosphere was electric.

Well done GB!:tup:

Oh, and Boris Johnson dancing...:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Oh, and Boris Johnson dancing...:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
Haha yeah :roflmao: I saw that too. But fair play, for getting in the spirit.

I was a bit disappointed that Queenie didn't make an appearance. Nor Charles, or Wills. Not that I don't think Harry is a good enough stand in, but it just seemed a to be a bit of 'poor show' by the Royals. I can kind of understand why the Queen or Charles might not want to attend a pop concert (again!), but I did think William would be there. He was privileged to watch all the top events that he chose, (when many 'normal people' couldn't get a ticket) and he did attend many, so I was disappointed that he didn't go to the closing ceremony.

I'm not really sure what I think about the closing ceremony. I kind of enjoyed it, but also felt it could have been better somehow (although I can't put my finger on it). On the whole it was a great party atmosphere, and good fun. To be honest it just seemed a bit lacking in modern talent. I thought Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Taio Cruz were fab. Since I found the 'pop' talent a bit lacking, I would have also loved to see more classical musical talent. I'm sure a bit of "Pomp and Circumstance"(Elgar) would have gone down a storm.

I was also waiting for 'posh' to fall off her cab, but at least you couldn't hear her sing!! And thankfully Macca didn't make an appearance.

George Michael is hardly fitting with the "inspiring the next generation" theme. :eek: As one of my friends wrote on facebook

George Michael , Kate Moss, Russell Brand, the Olympic Drug Testing team are gonna be busy tonight !!
:roflmao::roflmao:

All good fun. And very proud with how London has delivered the Olympic Games to the world.

I know what you mean Cherry. I think they were trying to put something in for everyone. I could well do with Jessy J, Tempah and Cruz as I can't stand them! LOL It just go to show they can never please us all.

I thought it could have done with more classical stuff though Darcy was wonderful. Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory) is often thought of as the unofficial English National Anthem and, whilst fitting for London, it might have upset the Scots and Welsh but something similar would have been good. I think all this political correctness just overshadows things like this.

I think we were all waiting for Posh to fall off!! :roflmao: You were right about George Michael, Kate Moss and Russel Brand Cherry - not exactly the sort of people we want inspiring our kids!

I think we were all waiting for Posh to fall off!!

I was waiting for Posh to stop looking like she wished she didn't have to do this but knew she must.

I'm a bit behind with the Closing Ceremony stuff, but just wanted to squeeze in before the Paralympics opening... I thought it was a bit much to get all the athletes from every country to stand in the shape of our flag! I'm not a Damien Hirst fan and thought the set design was unimaginative anyway, but I think it was also too inward-looking after the games had been so open and friendly.

I liked that it was definitely a party for the athletes, and the relaxed feel after the opening ceremony. Just a tad has-been though, and yes - Russell Brand???? Seriously? They should have had him in the opening instead, scaring the children then being banished by Mary Poppins.

Jessie J made it for me, I love her. I wouldn't mind if she put some clothes on though.
