I had a really unnerving experience this last week. I was chatting with a small child (about 6 or so years old) and she started to talk about her imaginary friend, Lulu. About how Lulu thought this and felt that, liked this, liked that.
The way that this small child spoke of her imaginary friend was almost identical to how I talk about the different parts of myself. It really unnerved me. Am I stuck as if a child?
And I know the technical reasons behind this - that dissociative parts are sectioned like a normal child might section parts, and then never integrated (as a normal child would eventually do with her parts), but this still really threw me for a loop to see it at play in real time.
