@City Slicker If you're really going to get into this (and it sounds like you've really been enjoying it) you might want to consider purchasing a pair of cycling shorts. They have a special chamois which protects all the important bits and helps keep your sitz bones from aching too much. You don't even have to go all spandex! You can purchase mountain biking shorts with chamois in them that just look like regular shorts from the outside. Truly: the "queen" will thank you for it- you really want to keep her happy.Oh... and no underwear with chamois-important side note.
Don't fret too much about your cadence dropping into the 70's and 80's. Considering the bike, your available gear ratio, and the size of the hill in question, this may be unavoidable.
Also: I was told try farklets in your running training. I'll let you know if they make a difference in a few months.
