It's hard.

I guess I didn't look at it that way. It's hard to know what to do and what not to do. He use to be such a communicative person. But now, not so much. Sometimes, it feels like he's got his good and bad days. I'm supposed to call him sometime this week so that we can go out (he wanted me to remind him since he's got alot of things on his mind, I guess) but .. now I don't know if that's a good idea.

to some1sangel,

I am in a relationship too with a vet (vietnam) who has been in treatment for about 6 years. We are very much in love, but he has come a long way he tells me. He is divorced and struggles to overcome his fears of being abandoned and unloved and his guilt and rage from events over there. He is very very smart and is getting better but I have to say it is sometimes very sad for me when I try to see any future for us. I know if I can hang in there and not crack it MAY work out.
If you see real worth in this man then stick with it till he has been in treatment a few years. Meanwhile get an understanding about what PTSD is really about for a war vet because it has a significance all its own. They have seen and done things they can not forget and these things glare at them in the so-called normal state of life back home. Those events make this life unreal to them. And we are removed from view ..they can not see us. Give him time and keep on doing what you are doing and remember IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU.

Good Luck,
Malibran
