I'm glad you got feedback and getting off one of them. It'll be great for your efforts to not go to waste! Meds are funny, you really don't know how it'll affect you until you're on them.

I have read on forums (related to health and fitness) that some women had issues with their hormones due to a variety of reasons that didn't necessarily show up on tests as well.

I was on depo for several years. When I was getting off of it, I started getting a soft midsection and ended up gaining weight where I never do. I did detoxed before the last shot (stupid of me, shouldn't have done the last one). I felt a difference so I did a lot of cleansing after the last one. Tons of detox tea and vegetable juices!!!!

Thank God my hormones aren't acting up terribly abnormal. I was lucky. I'm always careful with medication and how it affects my body.

Can I ask which med it is? Just in case ya know.

The detox worked for you? I was wondering about that for myself. I do not have a digestive system that works very well, so I'm a little hesitant. Do you have to do it for a long time?

I did one for weight loss, and the other more like a maintenance. It helped because it's not just about what you take during detox, but it's what you're NOT putting in.

After depo I had digestion issues - not major. I changed my eating habits. I already ate healthy but it was more about working with my digestion.

Detox helps you reset your system, cleanse, and give your body a break. You learn what foods and combinations work with your body, kind of like a white canvas. :)

I don't know if there are any things you should avoid food wise or what allergies you have. Personally, I wouldn't do a serious detox but maybe detox via juice replacement a couple meals a day to cut back on what your body needs to break down. So reducing fiber, sugar and bread (tends to bloat me more when they are combined).

I did vegetable juicing (an apple here and there) for breakfast and lunch with a snack. If you use fruit and no juicer, a blender is ok as it will break down the fiber enough. I cut out coffee (it was sooo hard!) and a couple green or detox teas a night. I like the Yogi brand. Sometimes I steeped my own with lemon, ginger, mint. :)

I will never go on a so called "detox" eating. Nor will I do anything that is not regular and balanced. I can't afford to do that because of my history. I also avoid certain language that relates to judgements people have around body and weight. Although I am probably at a stage where the latter would not affect me too much it is not something I agree with or find useful regardless.

Most of my life being exposed to any small part of any of these would have meant I would end up very unwell again (eating disorder {ED}wise).

On a personal level I do have serious digestive issues which are possibly mostly as a result of damage done with the ED and there are things I need to do to manage that but I will always work with all food groups regularly throughout the day.

Hashi is eating for health and wellbeing and I support that very much.

Merry Christmas to everyone! :)

Hey Abstract,

I understand your view. Detox is a term as anything else. There is no particular food or plan just like exercise or relaxing. It is different to everybody. It is healthy eating if done appropriately just like working out. Anyone can over do anything.

Sometimes it helps to give the body a break just like after a week of Thanksgiving leftovers! Nothing should be done that harms the body. Hormones change, our bodies change, we put crap in our bodies, etc. and there's nothing wrong cleansing the system. However, if someone has issues with ED, that has to be considered.

Just wanted to clarify as I'm about eating well and living a healthy lifestyle. :)

Sorry Sailorgirl. :) Not judging or assuming really. Just stating what works for me. Even the word "detox" would have been problematic for me in the past. Eating disorders are distortions and what I think is perfectly fine for someone healthy and without one is different to what I think is generally helpful for someone with an eating disorder or one in the recent past. In some ways it feels a little like trauma. You know how you can know you are safe and things are not happening now in one small part of your brain and yet you react differently? With eating disorders you hit triggers in a similar ish way and food itself can be unhelpful in the same way. Language and nutrition are both important. I am glad you know what helps you!
