Lucy And Ethyl's Cross Country Road Trip

Another day of adventure awaits us. I can't believe the amount of country we have traveled in a weeks time. it has been beyond fantastic and oh so memorable. Yes and even healing. For me it is like with every mile away from the old the new is being given life. And oh the life we have seen. OMG....there is life out here beyond the world of PTSD I tend to get caught up in. There is hope. There is life. There is healing. There is not just life, but LIVING. There is a big difference between "life" and "living" and I am discovering that as we travel towards my new home. I am also learning I have to look for it. It doesn't always jump out in front of us like Lucy's mailbox deer. Sometimes we have to lift our heads and look out where things are harder to see, but oh so worth the view. Lucy is terrified of the curvy roads we have been traveling, but when she looks beyond the curves look at the incredible shots she has been getting. It is a life lesson for me.

Sorry to get all serious, but it has struck me this morning the healing that has taken place. We only have a couple days left to travel....I am looking forward to discovering more about myself and seeing more of this incredible country. And the healing in laughter...OMG we have laughed. You can't make up the things we do. We really are ding dongs sometimes...just ask M. The girl has seen a side of me that no one gets a chance to see very often. The adventurous fun loving me is coming to life again....watch out world!!!!

I made a similar journey last winter, Massachusetts to Washington State. It was fabulous and I am dying to make the trip again. I may never fly again! Wyoming is beautiful and I'd love to move there. Did you see antelope? I saw several herds of them. Enjoy the journey. We are blessed to live in a wonderfully varied and beautiful country. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories!

Thank you for the wonderful trip, PH and ITL! The photos are wonderful...

Where does the Midwest start and end? I know I live in it, but the details are a bit sketchy.

If you want to come to Minnesota, we can all go on a camping trip. How about we go up to Ontario and visit our Canadian friends?

Keep having fun, Lucy and Ethyl!

View attachment 6824 Yep...Lucy's deer she thought I was going to run over .... is.... a mail box. OMG...we laughed so hard.

Seriously? You guys are so freaking funny! God I miss you! Damn...I'm having a heck of a time typing....too drunk from the good wine up at Illahae Vineyards. You missed an awesome day driving the horses, sorting grapes and eating pizza with local wine today PH....but as awesome as it was....it can't compare to the mailbox deer that you took a picture of! LOL! Sorry...too much wine tonight...way too much wine LOL! Love you both. Damn...I wish I was with you!

Spent all day in South Dakota yesterday, as there is just so much to see and the landscape is so vast. Went to Mt. Rushmore and was totally awed by the magnitude of the sculptures. It was amazing to learn that most of the sculpture (90%) was completed by blasting, and that no one was killed during the project. It also strikes into your heart just how great this country can be.

Our next leg of the trip was a visit to the Badlands. It is another place where neither words nor pictures do it justice. Nor can descriptions really capture how much fun we have all had. Ethyl was shooting a panoramic series and then turned the camera towards me....she jumped so high. I guess she was expecting a rock rather than a human, or who knows with her eyesight, she may have thought I was a rock until I moved. And then we have the scandal in the drug store.....Ethyl sat down to a cowboy and hit on him! She was so elated he smiled at her, but don't let her know he was a statue ...........so maybe she really does need her eyes checked.

Well here are a few of our shots. Believe me, there are a lot more of the prairie dogs but I didn't upload them all. They are just so darn cute!!!

What can I add....yesterday was full of amazing sights once again. Oh....I did let Lucy do most the driving yesterday as most the roads where straight and flat after the Badlands. She even drove IN the Badlands around some curves and up and down hills....she really did great. Course that meant I was in charge of the camera and navigation. The camera part, not so bad...think I got off some good shots. The navigation....well....let's just leave it at we got this far and we are in good shape!!!! Though the one time I slacked on my job Lucy ended up going down some gravel road that led to God who knows where....and I did notice she conveniently left out THAT shot!!!!

Isn't the rainbow incredible? At one point it was two rainbows....one was very faint and we didn't catch a very good shot of it. Man was it beautiful though. Just like God wanted to show us MORE of his wonderful, awesome creation. Then just when we thought the day was over and we would get no more shots.....WOW....what a sunset. Not only was it beautiful, but it went on forever. The longest sunset I think I have ever experienced. What a way to end a very full day.

Course this morning as we were loading pictures and we got to the sunset....I wondered why there weren't more pics after that.....duh.....Lucy had to remind me that picture taking in the dark doesn't result in too good of photo's. Okay...so I hadn't had my coffee yet. Did I ever mention....I am NOT a morning person. Course Lucy could argue and say I am not a night person or a mid day person either. Okay....so sometimes (U-hem...a lot of times) I have what I fondly think of as "brain farts".

Don't tell Lucy this, but the jump I did when I saw her in the camera lens was solely for her benefit....Got the result I wanted....she about peed her pants. Yes, another day of wearing depends was essential as we laughed sooooo much!

Today is our last day of travel and it will be a long one. But oh the sights we have seen and couldn't pass up. Now we have to make up some time. It has been so worth it though. So today....last day of our trip....kinda bitter sweet. I am feeling a bit depressed this morning as we prepare to head out. Missing home and wondering what my new home will hold. For now though....hanging onto this last day of travel and the sights and laughter we will experience. What an amazing journey this has been.
