Major Flooding Disaster Hits Queensland Australia

I have a friend who volunteers as a trauma therapist for the American Red Cross. Most of the work he has done in the past few years has been with flood victims. Incredibly traumatizing stuff. My heart and best wishes are with all of the people who have been devastated by these floods.

Just sick this is happening! I've been watching (hard to watch, reminds me of Katrina :( ) and my heart goes out to you and all being so horribly effected. Know that you are not alone and people care though it must seem like you all are quite alone in your dark hours.

Peace be with you,
Rain

Hey blwnaway,

I think it will take a long time beyond the initial shock for people who are actually IN queensland to process the reality of this. Best wishes to you and yours. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope you are ok. I have certainly been one of the lucky ones. Thinking of those not so lucky and wishing them the best.

Thanks Superjen, DITTO,
I was concerned for you down in Brissy as the crisis spreads south,
Flooding continuing & food shops empty up the road here as roads cut off & closed we're a separate island here at the moment, nothing in or out for 4 days another 4 days to go is the estimate but hammering down here again today so that may be extended.
Hope your luck holds, Hang in there,
blwnawy

My thoughts are with you blwnawy and all that have been affected, I hope the rain stops soon and some kind of normailty and recovery from this horrible disaster can occur soon.
Take care

My son is in the Sunshine Coast visiting family and the water got to within 100 metres of their house. Thank heavens they are on a hill and the mum was sent home from work before the streets flooded and she got back safely.

((((((((Blwnaway))))))))

Is there enough food and safe drinking water for all of you? Do you have disaster relief coming in?
Hang on tight, Dearheart!!! Don't let your name change to "Sweptaway"!!!
Love and prayers are with you.

I forgot to mention the majority of Anthony's family live in the Caboolture region and they have been flooded in by roads, have had trouble getting home (having to drive through flood waters or wait hours for it to subside, water up to the patio and their yards are just slop despite the grass. Apparently the shops have been stripped since the main Caboolture region was cut off from other towns.

Hope the worst is now over Blwanawy. I am sure your desire to live on a tropical isolated island has just been quelled ;). I know what you are going through from Anthony's family and if you and your family are safe and can get some food I trust that things will improve for you. Hang in there. It seems the 'eye of the storm' has passed and hopefully cleanup will be able to commence. It sounds like your house is ok?

Love the idea of the "isolated tropical island" but just not like this :). We're fortunate to be living on higher ground out of flood reach.

Just got off the phone to family in Ningi ( situated on the way out to Bribie Is) they said the same about battling to get home etc.
Glad to hear your son & Anthony's family are out of harms way also. Although water lapping the patio wouldn't have them in their comfort zone.
I heard the Brisbane river peaked 1m under their estimate not much but hopefully less damage for those poor people involved.

Massive disaster, been wondering who among us here has been affected by it. I wish you all the best as not only are our thoughts with you but so is my son and his girlfriend. They are in a backpacker hostel near William Jolly Bridge, Brisbane.

Adding your son and his girlfriend to prayers...

Dear Nicolette,
Thank you for keeping us all updated. People around the world care deeply and are horrified by this disaster. I have chills reading your post about Anthony's family, I hope they're all safe, and haven't tried driving through floodwaters. I'm amazed at how little water it takes to lift a car and sweep it away.
Worried and sending much love and prayers,
Deer

I never watch the news, but did check it out after reading this post. The extent of the flooding is horrific and I am so glad to hear that everyone who lives and has family in Australia is safe.

Prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Debbie
