Superjen, don't feel guilty as it is an event felt by so many. Probably the best thing you could do is get involved in the clean up. Just because your place wasn't flooded doesn't mean you haven't been involved in a major crisis.

Times like these can bring out the best in people.

Yup jesta, there are going to be a lot of people needing help over the coming months. As you said, a lot wont even know the extent of damage. It brings out the best in people and I can tell you this state has a really great attitude considering. Everyone seems to be looking around and pointing out someone worse off.

I do feel involved. I felt silly crying because nothing was happening to me. I felt like I didnt have a right to cry when its not my house. But I now know from speaking to other people here that they were doing the same.

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that once this water clears people here will band together - its simply in their nature really.

Yeah, my mother lives in one of the affected suburbs, though the water has not reached her part so far. They have people announcing when it's time to evacuate, so that's good.

It's messy.

It is a true tragedy. I'm pleased you are all safe. The hard work now begins. The clean up. We had flooding a couple of years back, (mine was very minor - just a couple of rooms) but it took some people over a year to get back to something like normal. I hope they get continued support because some here felt forgotten. The filthy water is one thing but it is the smell that got me most.
