I didn't even know this existed as a term. Why was I afraid of the plane, but not to fly? Why did I pass out on a ferris wheel only when it began to move? Why I can't look at a wind turbine without feeling like I have to hide? Such a strange phobia. The fear of large objects, but for most it's large objects that have movement to them. The instinct that we all have, but since we aren't chased down and killed by large animals anymore, it presents itself in this way.
I thought it was a fear of heights or something, for the longest time. It wasn't until I was on the actual ground and presented with this visual trigger that I googled "fear of large objects", and lo and behold.. But wow. It's a mixed fight or flight response, so much so that the person just shuts down at the sight of something like that. I wonder if PTSD has any play in these seemingly common phobias?
