@Never_falter , I grew up most of my younger childhood into early teens in Stuttgart. I went to a Department of Defense US school but we learned about regional history from Prussia through the 70s....not much about Eastern Germany as the wall was still up at the time. But I wanted to say that I get the cultural thing. Coming back to the states as a fourteen year old, so much was different. Patterns of conversation. Topics. Expectations. The simplest things threw me for a loop. So I get the cultural thing you mention. And no, US high school barely touch on US history much less world history. Even in university, things were very surface unless one was a history major.

That is a truly great thing to be teaching kids in school, and everywhere else!

BTW, I get most of my news free, from public radio. Both the US NPR and the CBC (the late night stuff they broadcast here anyway) talked about the Invictus, with no mention of royal attire, just royal attendance. (Seems like Michelle Obama was there too, but I might be remembering wrong.)

I wonder if this was covered more by "the liberal media" than by the "conservative media" because it's vaguely "anti-war", since it kind of mentions that people get hurt?

I don't have cable. I get my news all online. I asked a friend who watches all right leaning news and...
