@TandL's mum, if you are able to travel for a week with him, there is a good program in West Virginia and they do work with children. They don't use medications. He would be able to process the trauma while he is there. They would teach him good skills to continue his healing after the program ends with the therapists that are available to you where you live. While I was there, there was a child there at the same time as me and he seemed to like it and get a lot out of it. Here is their website: http://www.traumatherapy.us/

I appreciate all that you are doing for him!

UPDATE for everyone...

Sorry that I wasn't around the last day and a half. My son was taken into the ER and admitted today in a children's unit. The admitting doctor stated after his assessment that my son does have ptsd without any doubt and he would need to be admitted. I am beside myself and trying to grasp it all. He was pleading with the doctor to let him come back on Thursday morning because tomorrow is his birthday and he just wanted 1 day to be a little kid again, but it isn't to be. They are allowing me to bring a cake to him around lunchtime but I will only have an hour with him daily while he is there. Up to 7 days they said, but they are not yet sure if it's 2 or 5 or what. I just know they will not keep him past 7 :-(

I haven't slept since Sunday so I am going to try though I an not overly optimistic that I actually will.

I'm so sorry. My son was hospitalized a few times and it is very hard for all. Try to get some rest. I wish you both the best.

I am sorry to hear this but glad that they are taking it all seriously and looking after him. It must be hard to have confirmation.

Please do try to take the opportunity to rest and sleep as much as possible. This is an opportunity to do that if you can find a way to use it. Sadly there is nothing you can do at the present and he is in good hands.

Here is a site with relaxation exercises:http://www.dbtselfhelp.com/html/instant_mindfulness.html

Thanks Abstract. I'll take a look at the link you sent, didn't sleep very well though i did try (scout's honour). Yes, it's good they are finally taking something seriously but you are correct this is harder than the running around and not getting anywhere. I feel like a whole wall of bricks just fell on me.
