Movies (or Other Things) That Hit A Trauma Nerve

Other things ... news, no, for real.
Movies? Movies are a coping mechanism. At times I'm like 'the more f*cked up, the better, it's somewhere outside of my head&body, we're all good'. Doesn't mean I wouldn't go to knees for a bit but it's something I can control. Real life? I can't.

i tend to read an enormous amount of news , that doesn't bother me at all - but some shows really get to me , i love Locked Up Abroad but i there was one where the guy escaped his kidnappers - i was toast pure and simple for a week....i cannot watch other stuff but im sure i dont need to say what that is
Love stuff like the wire - gangs , drugs etc etc - no go streets

Blue Velvet. I got persuaded to see that by one of my ex's friends and he thought it was so wonderful. I nearly threw up, I wanted to run out of the cinema, and there was a girl a few rows down who was the same. And I was made to feel like I was being ridiculous for reacting to that violence and it was all about art. UGH.

I'm with @sun seeker seeker. Torture of any sort. You would not believe how many kids shows have scenes like this! Cars 2 has a scene that I can't watch. There are others that I've pushed from my mind...Rescuers Down Under. And there are so many about holding a child or younger animal hostage.

But I think my main trigger is fear. If I can palpate the fear of anyone, my anxiety sky rockets. Pain is okay. Blood is okay. Fear is not okay.

Yes @shimmerz I totally follow you & yes I think it very well can be a clue.

Even the movie I said, much as something in me (today) finds a word for the feeling I'm also choosing to put away that thought or feeling.

Realistic as it was (the feeling) -enough to recognize it- I am not the person I was even one month, or one year, or 30 or 40 years ago. So the 'clue' helped but so did your other thread.

Django Unchained is what comes to mind.

I didn't see Django Unchained but I did see Inglorious Basterds. It's from the same director isn't it? Anyhow I say it in the theater and I totally flipped out after watching it. Everybody in the theater thought it was genius and funny, but I just thought they were crazy for being able to quietly sit there and enjoy (yes, enjoy!) people being humiliated. Humans are insane.

Now I'm so curious how can Inglorious Basterds *not* be funny, I thought that movie's hilarious so did whole the party I watched it with so I'm just so 'wow, different point of view of someone I value, yass let's learn' thoughtful. I think part is I'm a sucker for 'people march in somewhere and most of them get also back out and they manage to do what they came in for' plotlines. Nvm, we're in a thread about things people found traumatic in this or that way so I'm not going to poke about this at all, I just got all thinking about what is it I found uplifting about the movie, if not thinking Pitt's acting. Thanks for sharing.

@darrenS, I'm with you on the reading enormous amount of news, I'm still just emotional about them. Kind of a 'need them, want them... c'mon what on earth is this, whyy, people.' I can usually tell I'm depressed the time I stop reading the news.

I have to limit the news as well, though I sometimes feel badly about it.

Even the (non real life, aka movies) scenes that trigger me, I think now "enough of that', not good for my state of mind. Sure, there are/ were valid reasons to feel it but I'm trying to get in the habit or capacity to remember good things. "Clues" are a bit different, but I can't rush the understanding or memories, or even grasp it with solely my own intellect.
