Idk how loud or if it'd would help, but i'd try a fan or white noise machine. Also if it's possible, speak with them, say the building is older and the floors are a bit thin, would they consider getting an area rug (ofc only if you're on speaking terms with them, which sounds like you may not be.) Possibly ask the landlord to ask them to?? Idk but area rugs help a great deal to muffle. Good luck though. Hope you don't have to move.

I didn't take the basement apartment. The thoughts of no sunlight and no fresh air was a deal breaker for me. I just couldn't imagine living without both of those things. I would have gone stark raving mad within a month.

I'm not thrilled about a studio apartment either, so I'm back to just looking for the right fit. I hate this crap, as it just causes anxiety that I can do without.

@She Cat I'm sorry you're still dealing with this. Keep looking..there's bound to be something better out there.

We finally moved and hit the jackpot! My landlord is so nice, tenants aren't lunatics and best of all we hear NOTHING!

Its a block and a half from the beach...a lot smaller than we had. So I gave 5 big pieces of furniture away but I can see us here for the long term.

Good luck in your search

Well, it's the same old shit, just different month. LOL!!!! Still here. Found out from the guy upstairs that the building has been sold, the new owner takes over Nov 1. I have no clue as to whom it is, or what he plans on doing. I can only hope and pray!!!

And it's the same shit with the guy upstairs and his girlfriend. He's quiet, her....... not so much. She still stomps instead of walks and she has insomnia. Which means she's up all night banging around, cleaning and doing whatever, while I'm trying to sleep. She actually bought me a white noise machine 2 weeks ago when I flipped out again after she kept waking me up. It was a sweet gesture and I appreciated it, and I do use it. But, when she's up, she in the kitchen which is right above my bedroom, so white noise machine and even a fan, doesn't cover up the noise.

Last night she woke me up @2:30 am By 4:00 am I lost it and banged on the wall and screamed at her to GO TO BED!!!!!! Ok, silence. But now I'm awake and can't go back to sleep!!!! The thing is..... she DOSEN'T live here, she just comes to visit..... seriously do I have to put up with this shit from someone that doesn't live here?????

I left a note on his door this morning saying I'm really trying NOT to be a bitch, but the next time I WILL call the police... Although I probably won't, because I really like the both of them, but I like my sleep better.....

Well, if it isn't the people upstairs keeping me awake, it's the smoke detectors next door. Empty apartment. They have been going off randomly for a month. I've complained, but nothing gets done. Well, after 2 nights of listening to them going off and the people upstairs keeping me awake, I called the landlord and had it out with him. Do I give a rats ass???? NO!!!!

I'm tired, cranky and I don't give a shit!!!!, I just want sleep and peace and quiet!!!! I pay my rent and I'm super quiet.

Well, I got so pissed off on Wednesday night after the smoke detectors went off again, that on Thursday I talked to a couple of firemen when we had our street fair. On Friday I called the fire chief and explained what's going on. My landlord just showed up with the electrician and bitched at me because the chief only gave him 24hours to fix the issue. Told him I didn't much care HOW he felt, and that I've been listening to this shit for 5 weeks. It's a safety issue, and after all this time all I do is f*cking bitch when they go off, and then I TRY to go back to sleep. What happens if it a REAL FIRE?????? He's not happy and I don't give a flying f*ck. I'll be glad when the new owner takes over. Although that could be a whole new set of issues....:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Been up since midnight when the smoke detectors went off again. Landlord had an electrician come in on Friday to find the issue, and the electricians suggestion was...... He took down two of the hardwired smoke detectors and gave them to me to put in my apartment, and if one of them went off, I had to figure out which one and then he’d know which one was faulty.

Neither of them went off, but at midnight the one in the hallway went off, so that means it’s one of the other two hardwired ones that is faulty. This morning when I call the landlord, I’m telling him, HE will need to take the other two home with him and wait till one of them goes off to figure out which one is faulty. I can’t do this anymore. I’m exhausted. It’s been 6 weeks of this shit of two to three nights a week with no or broken sleep. I’m done!!!!! f*ck hum and his smoke detectors!!!!
