I guess you could ask if you don't know if it's appropriate? (to ask).

I think understanding is huge. I...

Self, disclosure,on the part of the therapists should always be in the best interest of the client, not the therapists'.

Every human has problems and issues. Many therapists are wounded healers in the snse they have experienced things as well. Sort of,the Patch Adams affect

I think though, because everyone has experienced suffering, the difference is how one has healed or their struggles or how they view suffering & even recovery/ recovering. And the fit between client & T, too. Could be big differences. I think Patch Adams reflected a view of people having more inherent dignity, some people are wounded & it doesn't translate the same, JMHO.

Mind you, everyone would say a client shouldn't have to worry about their T's feelings, that's true. But I know a person like me, I couldn't just go in and talk like I hadn't thought of that. It's just un-natural (for me).

@Junebug and @Whyteferret thank you both for your responses. Everything you said is true. I do think that it lessons the shame and helps with the healing.

My T has been wonderful. We often text in between sessions and she tells me to text her anytime I need to. Sometimes I wonder if I rely on her too much. I have been going through a difficult time because of a recent assault. So sometimes when she says I understand how you feel, I then wonder exactly what she means. Did she go through what I have or is it the feelings she is talking about. I think to ask but I usually freeze and don't.
